Just joined forum, actually first forum i've ever joined. I have had a pond project going on now for about 5 years(in northern virginia). I am currently digging the pond out.... again. Making it bigger and pulling the edges back to reduce slope. Pond is fed by run-off and by low flow spring. Plan to stock with fish, use for swimming and drop point for zipline. Problem is I can't get it to hold water. Big news to you all I'm sure. Hope to get a lot of insight here.
Thanks,

Scott

Welcome Scott.

What are your suspicions on the source of the leak?

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I believe the upper layer of soil (dam) does not contain enough clay. When it does fill from days of heavy rain I can notice wet areas quite a ways away from the damn (many days after the rain stops). In fact, up to 50 feet away the ground hog holes fill with water. Big sponge. If I didn't love playing on heavy equipment so much I might get frustrated.

You need a couple ft of well packed clay on the suspect areas.
