OK, will do. If I catch another one like that, I'll announce it to the world. I thought it unusual, but didnt think it was that big of a deal. What other minnows are out there that would resemble a FHM? No streams flow into this pond, and though not impossible, they'd be fightin' like hell to swim up my culvert. It's mouth was close to the same size as a 7" shiner that I'd caught within 5 minutes of landing that bad boy.Actually, the hook you see in the 6" shiner, was the exact same as the suspected FHM was caught on.

I have now put 3 minnow traps in my pond. I am making an attempt to catch a creek chub. Though I understand the results of my scientific study will never be 100% conclusive, I do know that if I were to confirm a creekchub minnow in a trap, that would definitely raise the possibility of my hooking a creekchub. It will be very interesting to see what I catch, there may be some other elusive creatures lurking in the shadows of the pondweed........The results may scare me!

I had no idea I had GSH in my pond, especially of the sizes I have caught, discovery is a BLAST!! I will provide further photographic evidence from here out! And if I in fact do have creekchubs in my pond, they will be a welcome addition to my population. If the creek chubs got here naturally, via swimming up my drainage pipe, they were able to make a 3' jump without Salmon stairs!

It's amazing how big an obstacle fish can get around to find a new home. If creek chubs did it, I can almost guarantee GSF did too...

I concur....it was swamp gas, or a weather balloon!!Anyway......I agree to disagree with your disagreement. Thank you for your input.

I have caught fatheads on hook and line before.

But it was a small hook.

I rarely fish with any thing smaller than a 18# but I have friends in the fly world that use 32#'s

If a #4 is baited right, it is easy to catch very small sunfish and such.

I dont doubt you for a bit James.

Did you save the minnow and use it for bait??

So I'm not crazy? I was actually kind of distraught for a while, but decided.."the world and me will never know." I have used creekchubs for Flathead bait before, and remember when I first saw a FHM that they looked incredibly like small chubs. This thing had a mouth different from chubs. I have searched pics of chubs on the net, and the striking difference I see is in the mouth.( been years since I saw a chub)
I originally posted a #8 hook. I went and bought new hooks, and compared to the ones in the pkg. and was actually a #10.

No actually, I turned the old thing loose. Thank you for the moral/mental support!

I have quit fishing with small hooks. I've actually caught 6 of my YP, and one was deephooked, it didnt make it.
