Construction begins in 3wks. I plan to post pics of the process. after countless hours of research on this site i have decided to follow the advice of having a grow-out pond and a main pond with a gate. Also, I'm only stocking LMB, FHM, Tilapia, TFshad. Sorry Bruce. If I find that I cant catch those tilapia i will stock CNBG Later, But I'll keep you posted with Pics. I'd love to here any comments or suggestions.

I Currently own 5 Acres, but I'm securing the other 20 acres as we speek. Theres alot of dirt to remove I know, but the man I bought the place from owns a sand and dirt-pit Co. So in the contract he has to remove 3 acres of sand from 3'-20' deep. That water you see is actually at the fresh water table for my area. So these will be excavation ponds. If I get the other 20Acres I'll have him contracted to do another 3 Acres of water. I figured for the price, with a 3% interest note, ponds included. I should start living the dream. Is there any difference in managing an excavation pond than a water shed pond?

LWJ, I was born and lived most of my life in South Texas. I was wondering where you place is? I currently live in Midland and have a place with pond down south of Brownwood. I still miss South Texas brush though. Looks like a great project you have planned. Good luck.
In Dog Beers, I've had one.

Heybud, My place is in Brownsville. Inside the city limits about 1/2 mile from the Rio Grande. I hope its far enough south that my tilapia won't die in the winter

LWJ, I am originally from the George West area, on Hwy 281 ( a common route to the valley). I suspect you will have years where tilapia won't die. I have a place in central Texas, close to Brownwood and all my tilapia died this year.
In Dog Beers, I've had one.

Where i'm at they have tilapia in the resacas, that and TFshad, and I have never noticed any of them die, even in the coldest winter here. My office window overlooks about a 60Acre Resaca (pond) and i see the fish activity every day. the comorants give'em hell. Note, I have only lived here 7-8 Yrs.

excavated groundwater pond vs. run-off pond - be prepared for water fluctuations (i.e. depth) from wet season to dry season. Make sure banks are at a slope that you can walk down to the water easily when water is high AND low.
If you want a pier or dock, it'll probably have to be a floating one.
