2000 is an omnivore food with plant based protein (catfish , tilapia , carp etc) while AM 500/600 is a carnivore food with fish meal based protein (LMB, HSB , etc). GFC is in between the 2. 2000 also is a big pellet 5/16 - a little bigger than AM 600. See this link on fish foods - http://forums.pondboss.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=92623#Post92623

Not harmful, just not as efficient in food to fish weights conversion
I believe in catch and release. I catch then release to the grease.. BG. CSBG. LMB. HSB. RES.

Landon, I recently learned of the whole Aquamax concept, in the last 2 months via PondBoss....Thanks Guys!!!!!!!! I have been feeding AM 500 to my gills for probably 4-6 weeks now,250-300 lbs. The growth rate on my gills is phenomenal.I do not sell it or am employed by Purina, or even own stock. I went from catching an average of 2-3 " bluegills, to catching regularly 5-6 inch bluegills in the short amount of time I've been feeding.I'm sure I've attracted some bigger gills to the area, but if 50% are original feeders......wait til this time next year. And they are getting thick! AM is more expensive per lb. but I'd rather feed 1 bag of AM 500 than 3 bags of the cheaper stuff. The small pellet of the 500 is very beneficial, as the poor lil gills mouths are not very big, and their teeth dont work very well! I personally would not feed anything else. I have always had excellent luck with Purina feeds, be it bottle calf milk replacer or chicken feeds......animals excel on Purina!I'm just a farmer.

James I use Purina products also. To be fair however there are other very good fish foods available. It is key to match the product to the goal - right type of food for the fish species and goals involved.
Think about mixing sizes of AM ( 400/500/600) to match the sizes of the fish you have. I also mix them with GFC and it absorbs the excess fish oil.

Ewest, I'm sure there are other good feeds available, and would definitely be open to sampling. I should have been more specific, about the "cheaper stuff". My cheaper stuff was the 32% protein cc floater. To be honest with you, until as of late, I didnt know there was anything else available on the market.I thought 32% cc floater was the center of the universe! I have 3 Purina dealers in the area. When I first called them they had the numbers in their book, but did not know anything about them. They were only familiar with the 32%. It was actually kind of amusing. After I ordered and went to pick up my "new found feed", the local yokals, and store hands were all standing around reading the bags, and all commented on something they'd never heard of. I let them believe though, that I was the trendsetter...lolBut watch them cringe when you tell them the price. And that's what I meant, I can get 32% for $15 dollars for 50lb. and the AM500, and 600, I can get for 28.97 for 50lbs.I'd rather feed 50 lbs. of 500 than 100 lbs of 32%. I would agree that mixing of the 3 is an excellent idea.

James, bth CC, GFC and AMAX are more considerably $ than that in my neighborhood.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I also had to check myself, I was thinking Landon was originally talking about bluegills........looks like AM2000 is in fact 32% with low fat........my bad. So to be fair, any suggestions on any other comparable feeds and if they are sold in my locality?

James I don't think you will find better food than AM that are comparable in content for the goal of feeding predator/carnivore fish including BG. There are some that are as good or close but it depends on the location and availability. Here is the archive on fish foods. http://forums.pondboss.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=92623#Post92623

Dave, I had read an older post concerning AM pricing, and was a little taken back at some of the pricing. I suppose I am lucky though! A little insight.....2 of my Purina dealers, are actually related, and in the Ag service industry.I priced at both places, and where I buy, is actually $5 a bag cheaper.I deal with the owner, and at the other the Representative. There is flexibility in the pricing. They work off of SMRP...suggested manufacturer retail price.Probably where I have an advantage, my dad used to buy 32% from my dealer, and buy it 3 tons at a time.I still walk in the shadow of me old man!I only buy it 500 lbs. at a time. And there is a Purina Mills plant about 17 miles from here, but do not think they actually make it here, as I do not believe they have any refrigeration equipment.I suspect from the smell of the stuff, that refrigeration is required for the raw ingredients. But I'm sure there are trucks coming and going at all hours of the day.Freight is a killer these days.
