Hello Forum, I have been Lurking for Yrs (Wealth of Info here) and was finally able to stock my pond in Dec Last Yr ..I have a two acre pond in Brownsville, TX. That's as far south as Miami, FL for those in the east. 1000 CNBG stocked 2-3in and 3000 FHM in Dec, 85 CNBG 4-6" on March 21st and 150 F1's 4-6in on the same day, Gams, Mexican Tetra, were already present . (GOAL is 3-4 lb CNBG)
I know thats a lofty goal but we all should have one Right? I Feed AM 500&600 mixed 2X's Day. After 8 Mths of Feeding ( I feed by hand and rarely miss a day) I have noticed 1 CNBG that is in absolute freak. I first noticed him yesterday and he was facing me. I thought he was one of my smaller bass 10" until he turned. OMG!!This guy is huge, he's 3 times larger than his closest brothers, who IMO are doing exceptional..Is that common or is this boy something Special??..I'd be interested in doing for CNBG what Condello Did for Natives, does anyone know his tecnique?
PS. I personally released ALL the BG including the 88 4-6" and there was no fish out of the ordinary.

I am guessing that particular CNBG has superior genetic qualities that allows him to grow larger and faster than his brothers.

The genetics will vary among a group of brothers. For example, a group can look almost the exact same but some of them will grow faster and outperform his brothers. I just figure that particular calf or fish has genetics that allow him to do this.

I'd PM Bruce and see if you can pick his brain.

There is a lot here by Bruce and others on the process of growing large (or any other genetic trait) fish. I do not think they are brothers/sisters but some may be related. Most good hatcheries go to great lengths to not sell (or even keep for growout) just brothers and sisters in one group. There is too much genetic risk in doing that so they try and mix them up some by changing brood stock.

That one fish likely has different genetics plus has a superior feeding pattern.
