Pond Boss Forums MANAGING AN EXISTING POND Fertilization The bloom- is it ugly?

I have a 5 acre pond/lake in North Carolina that we use for swimming and fishing (up to 4 lb bass, and 3 pound catfish with nice bluegill after 4 years). Water is very clear-three feet visability is common. Alkalinity? Never been fertilized. I read Bob Lusk's excellent article in Jan-Feb. 2003 PB, "Water temps, not dates, the real key" and am finally ready to check alkality, lime if needed (It will be) and fertilize. The problem: my wife believes and olive green blood will be ugly- or at least not as pretty as it is today. Is she right? DPW

Depends upon your point of view. If you like raising big fish, its beautiful. It is not too green, but does have a green tint. Usually "clear" water does not show you too much if you look into it. But green water shows you less, but I dont think you lose too much visibility.
