I noticed a letter in the Jan/Feb issue of PB that calium carbonate was used along with lime to clear a pond. I lime my pond when needed for PH but didn't noticed that it cleared it any. What is calium carbonate? How do you use it?

I'm pretty sure that was misprint. It is Calcium Carbonate and that is lime. Usually referred to as agricultural limestone in these parts. ALso known as calcite or CaCO3. WHat the guy used to clear the pond was agricultural gypsum CaSO4. Lots of info on this site about its use.

Depends on your soil. Some areas need lime, some need gypsum. What you need is an analysis performed.

thanks. I have an analysis done each year and they(ms state u) have recommened lime for the pH but have never said anything about clearing it with gypsum. Is it a "one of the other" deal?
