Welcome to the forum Short Dog. You're looking into spawning habitat for bluegill (BG)? BG will spawn regardless of what habitat you provide for them, but if you did want to help them out a little, simply adding some pea gravel in the shallows should do the trick.

And you're thinking about adding pallets as habitat? That would definitely work, but I would suggest going with PVC instead. You're going to lose a lot of lures bouncing them off the pallets. You rarely get snagged up on PVC.

Short Dog,
There are so many aspects to pond building, there are few simple answers to anything other than cattle watering "tanks."

I really recommend a pretty long study period before heavy equipment arrives on the site -- and lots of interviews with a number of pond building experts.

If you've already got a dam, and you've already excavated, but water is just starting to fill in -- now is a good time to post lots of pictures, and ask lots of questions. It is extremely difficult to make changes after a pond starts to fill.

Good Luck,
Ken
