Ought to be a pretty good sized crowd.
2 outdoor thermometers said that it was 109 Saturday afternoon at my place at Bowie.
Sunday it was only 108. I went back to Fort Worth. It was only 101 here today.

For once it's summer here in VA and we are not in a drought or even close to one. It's been a very wet year. We seem to get a half inch to an inch of rain about every 3rd or 4th day with the t-storms that move through.

We are the in the same situation up here. Most of our ponds are 6 foot low and the forecast is staying the same.
Saturday it was 112 here according to the temperature gauge in my pickup. Yesterday was it was about the same.

The guy that takes care of my lawn gave me a choice yesterday. Due to the drought and extremely hot temps, something has to go….either your pond or the lawn. My water wells cant keep up with both…sure am going to miss that green grass.

My water wells cant keep up with both…sure am going to miss that green grass. Talk about having your priorities in order! Here in California we can completely relate to what is happening in the drought striken areas of the US. California experienced three years of drought from 2007 through 2009. By the end of the summer of 2009 we saw the lowest water level in our pond that we had ever witnessed. Our pond dropped about 8 vertical feet from spring to summer.

Mine was down 4 feet but that was 2 weeks ago. It'll be down another foot this weekend. It was only 107 at my place. The old timers say we'll get rain out my way in mid September when the fair comes to Abilene. It happened last year(fingers crossed)

Break out the green paint for the lawns. They did that in California in the early 90's.

It's Texas It's summer It's hot
It's always been that way and not likely to change.
But this drought is something else entirely.

The only positive is it does give some a chance to improve placement of structure and clean up or enlarge ponds that are down. Our ponds are down about 3 feet and seem to lose an inch or so daily. What few springs were still charged have since stopped, so I think we will see increasingly rapid volume decreases on the ponds. Have to sell a bunch of cattle this weekend because pastures are near gone. The only green left in the fields are the grasshoppers!

We sold all our cattle a few weeks ago. It was just too hot and too dry for them to do any good anymore. You are lucky your ponds are down only 3 foot. The ponds up here are at least double and there is probably a foot lost due to evaporation every ten days or so. And we do have a healthly supply of grass hoppers

We have had 6 inches of rain in the last 5 days and would happily give 5 inches to the Texas area.

Dang that's warm.
Dwight, it would be very nice to get that amount of rain down here in that short of a time period.

I haven't had 6 inches of rain in the last 9 months.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
