I have a Moultrie directional feeder and was wondering if anyone else experienced the feeder drawing moisture? If so, are there any remedies or suggestions on how to fix the problem? Would vent holes or keeping it in the shade help? Possibly build a box around it? Any suggestions would help. Thanks in advance!!

I have a feeling that it's not drawing moisture, it's leaking and letting moisture in the form of rain or dew in. I'd double check all the seams and caulk them, and caulk any holes where handles go thru into the interior of the unit.

Mine also leaked. Caulked all seams and no issues since.

Thanks for the suggestions! I will caulk the seams and hopefully that will fix the problem. Considering the price of Aquamax these days, we can't afford to have moldy food.

Caulk the seam between the top peice and the bottom and make sure you tighten the screws all the way down. Mine leaked as well but it seems to be holding up ok now. Yes aquamax is to expensive to get moldy!

Just wondering if anyone has the Moultrie 6.5 gallon bucket feeder and if so have used or are using AM 600 in it?
Are anyone know if AM 600 will work in the feeder?
I can get AM 400 and AM 600 from the feed store here, but for some reason they can not get AM 500.
Any other thoughts or ideas please.

I bought the kit where I provided my own bucket. I'm using a 3-gallon see-through bucket from Lowes. It it pretty tight, and I haven't had any problems with moisture. For the last several weeks I've been using a mixture of AM 400 and Southern States Big Strike, which is about the same size as AM 600. I haven't had any problems with it sticking, packing, etc.

I used aluminum A/C tape on the seams, and haven't had any more problems.
I also have the 6.5 plastic feeder, but haven't used it yet.

I used aluminum A/C tape on the seams, and haven't had any more problems.
I also have the 6.5 plastic feeder, but haven't used it yet. It would be interesting to know what the difference is between the 6.5 gallon version and the "provide your own bucket" like I have. I bought a see-thru bucket with a very tight fitting cover for about $3 at either Lowes or Home Depot. It took me about 15 minutes to drill holes in the bucket and mount it to the Moultry unit. Mine has been very weatherproof except when a realy nasty storm pulled the feeder from the dock hook. It throws Aqua Max 500 and Lil' strike 25-30 feet.

I can't remember if it came with a solar panel or if I had to buy one as an option, but make sure to get a solar panel to recharge the battery. I like the fact that I can put quite a bit of feed in the barrel since I live an hour away from my lake and sometimes I will go a month between trips to the lake. I paid the full price of $150 and think it is worth that much. Certainly at the price for the reconditioned one, I would take a shot at it.

Every pond is different, and it's better to let the fish tell you how much food they want. (whatever amount they will clean up in 15 minutes)
In my pond, feeding 2x day, 50# will last a month or slightly longer.

It will all depend on the pellet size and density of the food. Take a plastic garbage bag, hit "test" on the lowest setting and quickly hold the bag over the bottom of the feeder. Weigh what's in the bag after it's stopped.

I am not sure how much feed it puts out with each feeding, but when I was using it, I set it to feed twice a day and it would last about a month before being empty. Seems like it would work out well for you. I have not used this feeder in the past year or so because I am moving it to a different spot on my lake and I haven't gotten around to building a pier in the spot that I am moving it to. For some crazy reason, when I go to the lake I would rather fish than work??

I fully agree with ESSHUPs post.
First, I would not worry about the weight of feed you are putting out.
My feeder runs for two seconds at 7:00 AM and four seconds at 7:30 PM. That is the amount of food that gets eaten in 15-20 minutes. I feed a variety of feeds with different weight densities. In general it is about 10 lbs. per week in my 0.7 acre pond.
Consumption vs. waste is my feeding critera.

I've seen 50 gallon plastic drums that have a screw-on lid, but don't remember where I saw them. You don't have to fill it up all the way, just remember to put a funnel in the bottom, or the food will not all reach the dispenser and will go bad over time.
