Hello,
I am new to the forum, I have a small fairly shallow pond that has culvert with a gate valve installed at the base of the earthen dam for the purpose of draing the pond. My trouble is that a leak has developed underneath the culvert this spring. Is there a way to plug the leak without major excavation. This is a small pond, maybe 1 acre and 7 to 8 feet deep. Thanks for any help.

Do you know the history on the construction of the dam and pond? How old, were anti-seep collars installed, etc. If the dam is 20+ years old, and the culvert is steel or galvanized steel, the culvert itself might be failing.

The pond/dam was built probably 30 to 40 yeaqrs ago. The culvert (galvanized steel) was installed around 1999 and appears to be in decent shape. I'm not sure what you mean by anti-seep collars but I don't believe there are any installed.

If there weren't any installed, then the water could easily follow the outside of the pipe to the other side of the dam. anti-seep collars

That's exactly what I think is going on. I was just looking for an easier way, something other than draining the pond and sealing around the culvert. I guess I was putting off the inevitable. I think that draining the pond and either building or purchasing a anti-seep collar will be my best option. Thanks
