Rex is right, the 1,000 is for a fertile pond. All the stuff seems overwhelming at first, but after a while you will start seeing the reasoning behind some of the suggestions, and the longer that you read the more it will start to make sense. Then you can start delving into carrying capacity, nutrient loading, fertilizing, etc., etc. Who knows, you may want to change tacticts in a few years to more of a feed trained fishery and go heavy on HSB. For a first time pond owner, the KISS system seems to work the best. (at least for the first 1-2 years!) It's interesting to see how peoples goals change as the pond evolves.
