Just put in a small pond in the spring and stocked it with Japanese coy and small brook trout we caught near our cottage. This past Friday I went out to check on the fish and they were all gone. I suspect an otter from the nearby lake or racoon Is there any way to protect the fish from land preditors?

Newpond, Traps are the only sure way. You can learn to do it yourself or find a local trapper .. he'll be glad to take care of the varmits. Ric
