Took my buddy Zach "Bass" Schoen fishing Sunday on Bremer Pond. He got the new NP record there at 39 inches. Pictures and story posted on Monday after I get some sleep.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

There are believed to be 3 to 6 of these units in the pond though an exact count is pretty much impossible in a 5 acre pond. They are all females. I think they eat a lot of whatever they feel like.

They don't like to open their mouth wide enough so their vision is blocked. Unless they are starving (these obviously aren't) they tend to stick to smaller 6-12" forage if it is available (it is).

So, what are we thinking for weight?? It's got to be at least 15 pounds? Maybe 18 tops?

I have a customer fish that size in the freezer. I'll let you know when I take her out soon.

Congrats Dwight. Sounds like you have a diverse fishery there.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

I think your weight range is about right. The stick says more than 15 and he was there. I am going to estimate 16.543 pounds grin

Since these fish are always returned to the pond they aren't kept out of the water beyond a couple quick pictures. Weighing, though interesting, would take more time and the fishes welfare is more important. Of course, you already know all about that. smile

Standard weight for a 39" NP is 15.1 lbs. Eggs would be present which would at end of Dec could abt 12 to 20 oz? Second picture is much more impressive which shows the importance of how you hold a fish for photography.

To catch a Northern Pike of that size, in any water, is not only a real thrill, but a very rare accomplishment.

To grow a Northern of that size, especially in small waters, is truly incredible.

This is truly something to be proud of for all involved.

Dwight -- if you keep this up, your NP might just overtake the musky record for pike.

P.S. I don't think I'd let Tan go wading, skinny-dipping, water skiing or swimming in the pond anymore! Actually, I don't think I'd risk going skinny dipping in your pond with that critter in there! cry

Nice work guys !!! NP that size are bruts. How you caught that on 4 lb. I don't know. I have lost them on 10 lb braid. A quick weight would be good info to have.
