...... prototype flies I just tied up for a buddy that’s headed for the Amazon. Amazon Peacock Bass love flies that are big, noisy, bright, bold, and colorful!!! These photos are for you T.J.BE WELL! FISH ON!

George, those flies are great, but don't we need to test them ourselves??  Always thought that would be great fun!

Those are great looking flies George! Back in 2002, I had actually made tentative arrangements with a guide there to travel to Lima Peru to spend 2 - 3 weeks fishing / camping / etc. up the Amazon for the fall of 2003. Got a quote to build my lake that was roughly half the cost of others and built it instead. Would still like to go; but have since gotten married. The thought of camping out in hammocks, fishing the amazon, and basically living off the land in the jungle for a couple weeks still sounds attractive; but the mosquitoes and mud don't.

My friend's wife is Panamanian. He always brings back photos of the peacock bass he catches there while visiting her family. Although, not quite the massive size of the peacocks in the Amazon, he has still caught some double digit bass. Lots of 4-6 pound peacocks there and the fishing pressure is fairly light... He may talk me into making the trip one of these days.

A trip I always wanted to make but time ran out on me ....
Tied many a Peacock Spinster peacock bass fly so I have been to the Amazon in spirit.
Actually, my friends are fishing the Rio Negro that flows into the Rio Solimões to form the Amazon River. It’s a dirty water river, hence the name - famous for BIG peacock bass that require big colorful flies.
I had to turn down the invitation to go …. late November trip … I’ll give a report with photos when they return…

Tied up a couple of prototype Peacock Bass Spinsters for a buddy heading to the Amazon. It'll take a Mini-Mag with a Belgian cast to toss them ...  A friend that I tied a couple of prototype Spinster flies for a trip to Brazil for Peacock Bass, has given me permission to post this report. (phone report – hope I got it right!) His first cast was with a Peacock Spinster fly that hooked and landed hooked the biggest fish of the trip – a 17 # - followed by a couple of 15 #’ers. Caught a total of 155 Peacock Bass which was the most fish landed of the entire group, as well as the largest fish. Rick Pope:
“George dropped off a couple of his big "Spinster" flies before we left ... I started the trip with them. Jig head hook with a little spinner on front. A scale for size of the fly photo below is missing - it was about 6" long.
Catching up is a challenge and we’ve got lots more photos to organize. Overall, it was truly an amazing trip and one that I’ll try to do again sometime.”      [/quote]

Thanks George - great report. I note that the flies are colored like the fish caught. Cannibals ? How did you know what colors (Mrs. G again)?
