We finally got some rain last night and this morning, totaling 1 3/8". I looked at the pond, but it only came up 1", even tho I was running the well into the pond all night long also.
The water had a lot less visibility, due to the runoff, and I noticed that there were numerous 2" YOY LMB dead around the shoreline. Quick water temp change in the shallows maybe?
One good thing happened is that the CC were feeding last night. 2 were caught on the trot line, one about 3#-4# from the Spring 2009 stocking and one about 6#-7# that was older. (I fin clipped all the ones stocked in 2009)
So, that brings the total to around 15 CC removed this year. I started the feeder again last week, and the CC were caught in that area.
The neighbor is planning on having a fish fry in the next week or so. I put them in a cage and will keep them fed 'till then.

Hmmm, sounds like it rained more in your gauge than in your pond...

I'd bet the YOY die-off was a combination of rapid temp AND PH change.
With the dead fish in the shallows, try some chicken liver to catch some CC in the shallows that will be there cleaning up.

Scot,
At least you got some rain. It's misting so lightly here it doesn't even make ripples in the water.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

The ground is so dry here that it soaked it up as fast as it was coming down. The wild cherry trees have leaves that look wilted, and some trees are losing their leaves like it was Fall.
I'll re-bait the trot line tonight and hope for the best. The liver is thawing out now.
This week between the evaporation and the farmer running his irrigation system I've lost about an inch a day in the pond.

Wow...you're talking about drought and we've had nothing BUT rainy weather all summer (and spring) long. Just MIGHT be able to start fishing the rivers end of next week...all will be 3-4' below action stages (maybe 7 feet below flood) for the first time since early May.
In a lifetime, the average driver will honk 15,250 times. My wife figures I'm due to die any day now...

It's so dry, the trees are bribing the dogs.
It's so dry I saw two trees fighting over a dog.
Its so dry here that the fire hydrants are chasing the dogs around.
It's so dry the government has announced a water pistol buy back.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.
