I am building my first large pond. As a civil engineer, I have designed many ponds, but I have never built one myself. I am impressed with the information provided on this site.
I have a dozer, a pond location and a dream of wonderful pond. The trees are down the stumps are pulled and the top soil is getting stock piled. This weekend I should be starting on the dam.
Thanks for the site.
Herb

Hey, Herb, it's great to have you here with us! Someone with your knowledge - and the drive - to jump in and build your own pond will fit in nicely around here! Like jeffhasapond said, please take pictures of the process and share them with us in a new thread. How big is the pond going to be? What are the goals for it?
Best of luck in getting your dream going. We look forward to being on board for your progress!

I spent 20 hours on the dozer this weekend and things are looking good. The stumps are pulled, the topsoil is stockpiled and I started moving dirt to the back side of the pond berm. I will start the key trench and outlet strucure next.
I will post pictures in a new thread soon.

That 20 hours sounds about right Herb, you are a few hours east of me, I have fished a rather large pond over your way once or twice, can be good walleye fishing if you hit it right. You must have good bear hunting where you are.

Joe,
There are a few bears around. I have not seen any this year, but there are signs they are here. Many large rocks turned over, insect infested logs riped up, and the best sign, honey comb in bear poop. I have a picture I took of a big guy last year. He was almost 6 feet from nose to tail. I do hunt, but not the bear. I enjoy having them around.

I'm like you Herb. I hunt but just don't have the heart to hunt bear. Good luck with the pond bud and keep a photo journal. It's a pain but so much fun looking back once you're done. Here's a little fella that was outside my window. (click to play)
