My surface water temp on my biggest pond today was 86.7 and near the bottom it was 80.5. I only run my diffusers at night. I'm a little concerned about my biggest yellow perch but not too much. Tonight I'm not going to crank up the diffusers until about midnight or so.

Just bought a pool thermometer this weekend and plan to use it to get an estimate of my temps. It's certainly not calibrated as precisely as jhap's Duckmaster 1100, but it's all I could afford. Once I get a chance to check things out later this week, I'll post the results.

72F on the surface up here in the north. Haven't checked deeper down yet.

I haven't been running the diffuser because I wanted to keep the lower water cold. The trout haven't been seen near the well water going into the pond, so hopefully they still have enough O2 down deep. I cut the duck off the Duckmaster 1100 so it'd sink - I'll get temps tomorrow.

Pond has dropped 13" even with running the well into it over the past 3 weeks.

I haven't even bothered to use a real thermometer in weeks - my surface temps have been about like McDonald's coffee! It's been very hot here and my algae has been going wild like I've never seen it.

Anyway, there's not a thing I can do about it - no money.

Ahhh well, our creel surveys are showing our LMB with big ol' bellies and multiple classes of BG and LMB and minnows so, I guess everybody is doing as well as can be expected.

When I was at the pond on Sat. the Temp. at 5ft. was 63.8, but with this heat wave it's probably upper 60's now.

The pond, or should I say lack of one, is still holding the PSs. I took out the two remaining trout and have them living in a 48 gallon plastic tub, I got at Wally World.

I'm feeding well water into the tub and letting it flow into the pond, except it's soaking into the ground before it gets to the pond.

Today is supposed to be the hottest here in two years. I'm thinking of relaesing the PSs back into the wild. The pond is only at water table level about 2' deep and must be at least in the high eights, The aerator is going 24/7 to keep the alge from covering the whole surface.

I'm in mid GA (between Atlanta & Birmingham on I 20) and my temps are low for this area and time of year. One foot down 78 degrees. I still have my trout and caught 2 yesterday by mistake. If they make it thru the summer, I'll be real happy.

72 deg. last night and this morning. My trout are still doing well and eating like crazy, but I don't know how much more heat they can take.

I went out and took temps today.

Surface (6" down) - 91°
3' - 86°
5' - 82.3
10' - 79.7°
12' - 70°
13' - 69°
15' (bottom) - 67°

This is the first time that I was able to take depth meanurements without ice on the water, and I either couldn't find the deepest spot, or it filled in more than I thought. The pond has dropped 14" from it's highest level this Spring, and even that level was about 4" from going out the overflow pipe.

Well, here in the Great White North, the surface temperature was 86 deg.F here tonight! I did not get any readings down deeper, but I did dive down there myself and can assure you it is colder!

I took some other readings and found the D.O. was between 8.6 and 10.0. The higher readings were actually down deeper near the bottom in about 10 feet of water. Ph is a pretty constant 8.59 as well wherever I took readings. I also measured the hardness and it was 133 ppm and 268 microsiemens. I have a constant 46 deg.F water flow coming into the pond from the artesian well. My biggest RBT was sitting right there at the inflow all night. Can't say that I blame her!

91 F. for surface temp! Wow! It must be because you aren't running your diffuser lately as we are at about the same latitude and you have much more wood cover near your pond than I do.

Actually I really don't have that much shade on the pond at this time of the year. There are 2 trees that shade the pond at this time, but only from mid-afternoon 'till dark.
Slight bottom temp difference, huh?

I fished the local cooling lake for our nuclear power plant. The cooling side of the lake gets a little hot at times. I got my highest reading ever yesterday... 111 degrees. Needless to say, I don't think much of anything can live in that heat!

The non cooling side of the lake was in the low to mid 90's down lake and around 88 up lake where the intake for the power plant is.

Do you fish it in winter and if so what kind of water temps do you see then? And also if so, is the area that is warmed up in winter a fish magnet? Here in the Great Lakes the warm water discharges are a fish magnet in winter including salmonids.

Yes, the lake is basically split in two, connected by three huge pipes or dikes as they call them. The one side is known as the warm side or private side. It has no public launch ramps so only land owners have access to that side of the lake. The other side is the cold side or public side. Some of the greatest winter striper and bass fishing can be had where those pipes dump the warm water into the cold side. Because of the constant pumping of water for the nuclear cooling there is a steady current and the fish just stack up there. It's the only lake around here I know of that has tshad in it and blue tilapia survive in it year round as well. In the winter, sometimes the tshad and tilapia get lost and you will see huge kills of them. Nothing like fishing open water with water temps in the high 40's and it is 30 degrees and snowing out. I am lucky and have a friend who has a house on the warm side so I get to fish it as well. Kinda crazy see water temps that high. I am afraid if I were to fall in I would burn myself. They have a substantial area closed off that has water warmer than that. I believe many of the tilapia take refuge near the nuclear discharge area to find water temps warm enough for them during the peak of the winter.

ewest, can you post a link to the O2 readings that were taken at those depths? I read in one post that the subterranean water had 02, and I'm wondering if I could possibly have the same thing. I guess the only way to know for sure is to convince Cecil to come over here with his 02 meter and go for a boat ride.

As I said before you can use it any time as long as you want. I can even ship it to you if you want. The only catch is you may have to order some new membranes and the solution that you mix to fill them. I just can't afford to get away right now as I need to stick around as business is bleak.

Maybe you could write it off as a business trip. The nieghbor still wants to start doing fish, and I told him that you gave lessons.
