Be sure to wash the affected area to remove oils that can easily spread and cause additional reactions. Also, wash the infected clothes ASAP. And remember that just washing with regular soap may not cut the oil sufficiently, but rather spread it. I've read that using a dish soap like Dawn or something similar is a great way to ensure that you cut the oil as opposed to smearing it. There are also some poison ivy soaps that help prevent it in the first place if you think you were exposed, and that also help prevent any spread once you have it.
