I thought I'd start a thread where all the PondMeisters could list the fish that they caught on the lures. I'll keep editing the spread sheet that's in the 2nd post with updates as they are added to this thread by the PondMeisters.

Here's what I was thinking:
1) List the first fish caught. Species, length, weight and what lure used.
2) List the largest and smallest fish; Species & length.
3) List all species of fish caught.

#1 and #2 only pertain to the PB PondMeisters. #3 can include fish caught by guests.

Since there are a few added lures in the box, I'm asking for just the largest and smallest fish caught on the original five lures:

Chartreuse Rooster Tail (sorry not sonic)
Solvkroken Lure (all the way from Norway - thank you Paul)
Rapala Jointed J7 Floating Lure (from DIED's collection, thank you Dave)
"Condello Jig (from DIED's contest winnings, thank you again Dave and also Bruce)
"Road Runner" (custom made by George, yes you read that correctly, custom made by George, many thanks George) :

The species caught list can be any or all lures that are in the box.

I'll try and set-up an excel spread sheet to keep a running tally.

Keep the stories in the other thread, just add the data here and I'll transfer it to the spreadsheet.

So how can I get those free lures without reporting back Scot? grin

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

You can't. JHAP has the same people that run the Death Star keeping track of the Traveling Lures. grin

Scott,

Since we were tag teaming, I'm not sure how you want the data.

I'll give it to you and you record it as you may.

1. LMB 10" or so (your pond on the Rapala)
LMB 12 1/2" at my place on the Road Runner

2. Largest Fish - 12 1/2" LMB at my place on the Road Runner
Smallest - 3 7/8" LMB (let's call it 4") at you bow on the Rooster Tail

3. All species caught at my pond HBG, LMB, HSB

Mike:

What's the smallest one that you caught at your pond? I'm thinking pond owner at their own pond for data. Fishing a different BOW won't count.

Scott,

12 1/2 inch LMB was smallest at my place. Now that I think about it, I only caught 1 fish ont the Traveling Lures. Had too much fun watching Max. grin

Did you try out the lures any more at your place?

Nope, I was too busy doing things with the family and the graduation yesterday. I tried for a bit with Bruces Jig on the bottom last night but nothing. Today is the last day, then they go in the mail to Todd tomorrow.

Here's the report on my pond.

I caught fish on all the lures, with the exception of Bruces' jig. There must be FA over the whole bottom of the pond! The fish don't seem to like salad with their meat.

I fished with the Rooster Tail today and caught 4 fish.

First LMB today 5" 0.05 lbs.
2nd LMB today 10" 0.77 lbs
3rd fish Male BG, 7" no weight
last LMB today 14.5"-14.75", tag# 003, 2.4# This one I think is one of the pellet trained LMB that I bought from Jones last year. It was stocked at 12" (no weight) in June of 2009. This same fish was caught on 5-11-2010 at 14.5" and 2.26#.

The first fish caught was the 18" RBT at 3.2# on the Viking Spoon.

LMB and BG were caught on the jointed Rapala, and a 12" LMB was caught on Georges Road Runner.
BG were caught today on the other tipped jig heads, all between 7" and 9" long.

Species caught: RBT, LMB, BG

is it just me or is anyone else floored when a BG slams that jointed rap?

its the biggest lure in the box, you'd think it would scare them but something about the way it moves, the way it grooves, the way it shimmys across the water, the larger BG seem to love this thang. i dont remember if randy and burger caught BG w/ it, but ewest, and me, and esshup certainly did....its a hoot.

I caught a nice HBG 2 nights ago on a small rattle bait. Biggest one I have caught yet. They were stocked in September '08. It weighed .6 pounds.

O.K. Guys (and gals)

I have PM's out to some of the PondMeisters for more information.

Now, I have a question. Should largest fish be figured on length or weight? I'm leaning towards length because I don't think everyone has a scale to weigh the fish.

Here's the "species caught" list so far:

BG
CNBG
GSF
HBG
HSB
LMB
RBT

If there are any omissions, please let me know!

O.K. Thanks to TJ, I was able to upload the Excel file in the 2nd post in this thread. If anyone has data to fill in the blanks, please let me know. I'll update the excel file after each PondMeister posts the following data (and their story).

First fish (species, length, weight and what lure used) caught on one of the original 5 traveling lures

Largest fish caught on one of the original 5 traveling lures (species, length, weight and what lure used)

Smallest fish caught on one of the original 5 traveling lures (species, length, weight and what lure used)

I'm looking for suggestions and opinions on whether the largest and smallest fish should be determined by length or weight.

Shoot me an email at tlaneve@8777wvlaws.com after visiting the thread "Traveling Lures Schedule" and picking a date. I'll put you on the list and the lures will magically show up at the appointed place and time!

Hey, Scott, don't forget my second round with the lures - these were my biggest fish with them:

13" - 1 lb. - LMB
8" - 12 oz. - BG

Todd:

I'm only tracking the first fish caught on one of the traveling lures, largest and smallest by the PondMeisters themselves, not guests, nor at BOW's other than the ones that they own. Those fit somewhere in the middle, so they're lost in the clutter. wink

Heck, I had to narrow it down somehow!

Now, is the biggest/smallest determined by weight or length?

Oh, okay. I thought you were doing the largest each one of us caught with the lures at our ponds in addition to the first fish we caught at our ponds, so that's why I sent you these two.

As for how to measure the biggest, I think you could do two categories. That would only be two fish at any given time since you're only doing the biggest, not everyones' personal biggest with the lures - one for length and one for weight. That way we see both dimensions of measurement that are of interest to us anyway, and we don't then have to get into some relative weight calculation and interspecies comparison that gets people all riled up and leads a fist fight at the next conference and ruins the whole thing for everyone! grin

I thought that I would limit the fish that I tracked by only allowing the fish caught on the original 5 traveling lures so that everyone had an equal chance. Not with any "extras" that might fall into the box as it made it's way around the PB community.

FWIW, those two were caught on the brokeback rap and the Viking Spoon, by me, in my pond, but not the first fish on either one. FWIW. grin
