I decided to break down and kill off the pickerelweed along the side of the pond where we fish the most often. It may serve as a little shelter for my GSF but it serves more as a frustration to my young anglers.
My question is.. How many of you have treated it with a 2,4-D (Amine) solution and seen good result? (applied by spraying a light mist directly on each of the nuisance plants) Did they go away permanently or did the rhizomes survive?
Since I did my treatment today, the clock is ticking and I'm expecting results when we get back from our road trip in 3 days.
2,4-D is a systemic, and should do the job on that pickerel easily. You may need to retreat any remaining plants. Won't be many if any. The systemic herbicides can act a bit slow. They need to travel all the way to the roots, sometimes which are underwater and in the mud. You may of may not see results in 3 days, but you should in a week. Depends on the % application also, and your absorbion rate combined. I have had pretty good long term success with 2,4-D, but many are trying to ban it.
Less than 72 hours after application, they are brown down to the mud. I tried to use a modest dosage since it was in liquid form and I was spraying the affected plants directly. I've never really seen 2,4-D work this quickly but then again it's the first time I've used it on aquatic plants.
