Do you have a bunch of FA in the pond?

What do you mean by green water?

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Dave,

I think he means water colored green by an algae bloom.

Why is green water a problem? It produces oxygen and the fatheads may feed on it somewhat. Personally there is nothing easier than planting fatheads in a small pond with no predator fish and watching them multiply like crazy.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Sorry guys, I was at work and had to cut off my question, you know I was suppose to be working smile
I have a tank that holds about 800 gallons and I plan to raise a bunch of them to throw in my pond. My thinking is I can raise more for my pond so I don't have to buy any,, the cheapskate that I am. yes after the chlorine dissipated then my water has turned green and I was wondering/hoping that the green was actually a really good algae bloom and nothing to worry about. Trouble is I thought I would be able to trap some from my pond but have had no luck since they are very few of them it appears. So I am going to go and buy a couple pounds to get it started. Kinda two fold, to replace what I have lost and for my smaller nephews and kids that come over to mess around and see fish up close. I have a small fountain pump that keeps the surface rotating and hopefully also putting a little oxygen in the water.

It probably is a really good algae bloom but it can be overdone. Check the visibility.

Fatheads can tolerate a lot of bad water but even they have a limit.

trialsguy if the algae gets to be too much you can use a UV sterilizer to clear it up, but I wouldn't use it continuously.

Here's a small one the size I use.
