One of the major cable news networks had a story about the demise of the Aral Sea in the former Soviet Union due to irrigation and subsequent drain down of it by 90 percent. Anyway, they said the most valuable fish for commercial fishing was the "Pike Perch." I can excuse the colloquial term for a walleye even though they were most likely speaking of a close relative the zander (walleye are only found in North America), but to show a picture of a common carp is inexcusable.

Travis (CJB2003) and I discussed here about how if the media can't get fish related items right how accurate are they on other things?

With the limited journalism I've done with no formal training, I just can't believe a national media outlet can't get their facts right! Where do they get their facts from Joe Blow down the street! *&^%%$#!

I wanted to comment on their errors (there was another one in the same story), but the story was taken down before I could do so. And I'm registered to make comments posted just below the stories but the last time I tried it, it didn't work.

I think I saw a blurb on that, but maybe from another source. I don't recall seeing a carp. I saw boats tilted on land miles away from water, next to a dock. Reminds me of Mono Lake, but on a much larger scale. I hate to say this but the evolution of the journalist has gone from well studied, informed and well written educated person to talking head teleprompter reading goof. They spend more time in make up then researching what they are babbling about. How did I look? Was my hair in place? God did that fish stink, I'm ordering steak tonight.

I wished I would have pursued journalism as a major in college. It would have been a lot easier than a science, accounting, or RN degree!

Plain and simple; they do very litle research and fact-checking is non-existent. The push is to make news, not report it. Who needs to know/research anything when this is the goal.

Ever notice anytime you see a piece of heavy equipment on the news they call it a "bulldozer" and when you see it is a skid steer or a back hoe, sometimes an excavator or a loader?? The problem with the media and most of the people in this world is they are ignorant, on both sides of the lens, so you get stuff like that just to fill air time and empty heads. I don't watch much news, nothing I can change in it anyway.

Pottsy you have that right. Plus it is next to impossible to hold them accountable for what they say/print.
