You do truly know how to hold and handle the females. Very nice pic. BC based on others you caught there, are you thinking both fish are females or only the one in your left hand? Do male CNBG that large and with dark hue have black scale tipping on the nape?

These bluegill were a mere 11.5 to 12 inches, and about 1-12
The LMB was 21.5 inches, and heaven knows how much it weighed. Maybe Lusk will chime in. The Boga Grips are a little iffy on weighing, but I'd say this fish was close to 8 lbs.
We caught some bluegill that were a full 50% bigger that we'll share photos of later.
I'm convinced the fish in my right hand is a CNBG male. Yes, they typically had nape scale tipping, but many of these fish lack the large eartab development.

Dang! Those are serious BG! Never having caught one even approaching that size, I'm curious what the fight is like? What kind of a rod/reel setup were you fishing when you caught these?

Excellent fights! The 13 incher in particular was amazing. I was using a Ray Scott 7 foot spinning rod and a Shimano Solstace 1000 reel with 4 lb test Trilene XL.

So I'm assuming that was a medium to medium-heavy action rod? I know the 7 and 8 inch BG we catch are a real hoot on an ultralight setup, but I probably can't even begin to imagine the difference between them and those monsters you hauled in!

Do male CNBG that large and with dark hue have black scale tipping on the nape? Yes. IMO no difference in sexing traits except the copper band on males in season as an added trait. Here are a few.

WOW Bruce, with your photo technique, I would have thought that fish was 15 lbs! And a 13 inch BG is something else. I need to find a way to get out there and fish!
Get out and fish.

I'll add some details, too.... I'm at Richmond Mills/King Fisher, with Jim Morgan and Dave Buhler right now. Will add some comments after I meet with these guys.

I caught PR's including the following. Bluegill 2-10 LMB 8+ Pickeral 18 inches, weight unknown Black crappie 18 inches, 2.75 lbs. Some kind of sucker that I caught was about two pounds. Here's that crazy crappie.
