Just a quick update. Got my well screen in place and tested with only about two feet of output pipe and the screen kept up just fine. I bought 10 feet of 4" screen made for sand. Then me and the boy wanted to see how it would do uphill so I had some 1 1/4 " discharge hose we hooked up. \:\) Only got 15 gpm at the top of the hill with that. So either I really guessed wrong on my total dynamic head (guessed it at 50' to 60') or that is an excellent example of friction loss. Will find out this week some time after I buy the 3" pvc.

Well havent done a bucket test yet but ran 3 inch up the hill yesterday and was getting atleast 40 to 60 gpm. Its amazing how much difference there is in pipe diameter using the same pump. Running to the pond this weekend but dont look to lose much volume because I only have about 100' to go and its level ground. Thanks everybody.

jason the larger pipe can really make a differance, especially when you don't have alot of ups and downs like with flexible pipe that follows the contours of the ground. By keeping a continuous uphill or down hill you will reduce friction and backpressure due to air pockets.
I have three 1 1/4" flexible pipes that siphon water from a stream and run down hill 300ft. with numerous ups and downs to the pond, total flow is 36gpm .
The 2" pipe I put in last year is suspended so that it is a continuous downhill, it produces more than 60gpm.
