I saw the announcement earlier this morning, DIED. My wife and I sure have enjoyed that show over the years.

That is sad, he was a real character, and the show is one of the best on TV.

yup, my wife and i also really enjoy that show. it wont be quite the same w/out him. it would be cool if they did a memorial show for him.
the level of stress those guys are under is hard to imagine, the environment, the business, the people, and the added stress of the tv crews the last few years in their careers.....i pray for his family and crew.
when i lived out on long island back in the early 90's, my landlord was a lobsterman. for extra money, i went out with him several times and got a SMALL taste of what its like (my job was sorting and banding), even though it was just the long island sound, we had some pretty hairy days.
GSF are people too!

Me and the wife love the show. To be 100% honest it pissed me off when he continued to smoke after the last heart problem he was having. The sons or least one of them smoke as well. Having lost my Dad due to smoking it saddens me to see great people choice this over life. My Sis still smokes I don't get it and think everyone has the right to make that choice but it is selfish choice in my opinion. I will miss Phil but his cough.

I wish they would have shown a picture of Phil. I can't remember which one he was for sure. I think I know which one but...
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Chris,
Thanks! That's who I thought it was.

At least he died doing something that he liked, and didn't whither away in a hospital.

There sure are a lot of characters on that show... I don't know if either of his son's are mature enough to captain the boat now and I doubt either of them have the required Coast Guard licenses.

Scott I agree on what you said. I would rather Phil quit smoking made a recovery and die enjoying what he likes for after another 10-20 years. He could have continued to enjoy the time with his kids and watched them become captain. Ill shut up now and not be so dang negative.

Greg: I hear ya. I never smoked, and I guess the habit is hard to kick. I used to belong to the San Clemente Rod & Gun Club (no not the really big one just to the South of there! ). There was a caretaker and his wife that lived on the property. They were up in age, and both had smoked forever. He ended up having one lung removed due to the big C, and still smoked. He even kept it up when the other lung started to go and had to be on an oxygen bottle. She kept on smoking as well, even after he was gone.
