Interesting! A contradiction in the same state! Like Rainman said...

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

I'm getting 20 - 25 pounds of blues from Rex this coming spring/summer and will be putting them into my small pond. I had a bunch of watermeal and FA come on later in the summer, but from the first day we visited the farm in June prior to buying, the bottom was covered in chara. While I won't have a similar pond to do a comparison with, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how the blues handle the vegetation and will be posting on the progress.

Todd,

Yes definitely keep us posted. As you may know I too have prolific Chara but I haven't decided if I want to plant Tilapia yet. If this economy keeps tanking I may not be able to afford any fish!

You could always eat them Cecil... I am growing a garden this spring. First time since I bought my own home to have a garden. Help with the food costs a bit maybe.

Yeah, I think I remember you posting about that at one point, Cecil. Rex and I talked for a good while on it and I'm really anxious to see what effect they have. As much as anything, I'm hoping they'll nail the watermeal while they're providing forage for my BG and LMB. I'd love to see my LMB grow a little bit, though I really enjoy the impact they have on the BG, which are all a decent size, though no lunkers like so many of you guys have grown.

I'm actually also really looking forward to eating a bunch of the tilapia. Going to have to read up again on the techniques some of you guys use to catch them.

Adding these fish is my first real effort at managing either pond, so I'm looking forward to learning about the impact and seeing what lessons I take away from the experience. I may actually feel like a real pondmeister after next summer!

Gardens are pretty cool. We've grown a small one in an old flowe bed right against our house pretty much each of the 10 years we've been in this house and always have a nice little batch of veggies to cut costs. We're going to prep and fence a 25 x 50 garden plot at the farm starting this year and really try to go all out. My wife has been learning to can stuff from her mom and is going to give it a shot this year. Between our own garden, the ponds, deer, and buying half a beef each year, we ought to be set!
