I read in a past PB article or forum that there is a table to use to determine the average weight of a bass based on its length. For example, 12"=1lb. etc. Can you help me find that guide?

All Pondmeisters. Here is a user friendly site that will have a very useful simple to use program to calculate for almost all common freshwater sport fish the weight or length when one of the two is known. The download is not infected with spyware or popups. You can contact the source if you have problems with the Fish Calcuator. I have the calclator on my desktop and use it quite often. My friend (see Jason's post below) who has a fishery and computer degree from Ohio State built this handy Fish Calculator.

I saw an ad in the July/Aug 2002 issue that said PB was looking for a back issue of the May/June 1996. I guess that means I couldn't get one.

Tim,
I have the RW chart to the closest 0.5 inch for bass and also one for bluegill on my website. It is critical for the smaller bass less than 14 inches to have accurate length and weight measurements. The RW is good is an index so it is most useful using it over time. If you see the RW going down starting harvesting bass (if quality bass fishing is your goal).

You can find it at www.lakework.com. Click on articles then click on "Does your pond need a physical exam". The article describes in more detail about the use of RW's. Good luck, Greg

Hey, folks. Here is one more web site that you might try. These people make the gator grip golden rules, I believe. They took the standard weight equations that so many fish management biologists use, and prepared this "cute" little site for seeing how much a released fish probably weighed. It has quite a few fish species included.

Mike,

I'll save you from having to wait for the website that Bill Cody is talking about. (Bill, I'm at fault this time \:\( , just haven't had a chance to get the program uploaded). I've developed a simple little program to figure out the standard weights (that is, what a healthy fish should weigh) at a given length. There's at least twenty some species on here so you should be able to find what you're looking for. One word of caution, these calculations do not hold for very small fish (for most species < 3 inches.) I will have that worked into the program soon! Anyway, for anyone that is interested, just send me a line and I'll get the program emailed to you ASAP. If you like the program, email it on to anyone else you think might be interested.

Jason Roehrig

Cody deleated Jason's email address for secruity reasons and I think it was outdated.
