Watch them just like Snappers. The softshells are just as fast and I think they'd bite just as hard. I've done pretty good over the years and never have been nabbed by one.

I have always thought the softshells are cool. They do not sem as mean but might just be the appearance is nto a menacing. James keep pulling the cats i wish there was someone to take them they woudl make some good catfish nuggets.
Yes brettski Wyatt was helped with Condello pic method by me holding the fishing line.

Just bought a deep sea rod and put 30 pound test line on it. That turtle had two other hooks in his mouth when I caught him. I think there are more turtles or some really big cats keep breaking my 20lb test line. I do know I have a big snapping turtle that I have seen. I don't think even 30lb test would land him. I will try to remember my camera this week.

All because you really needed a new fishing rod.

Only for the vultures we can't eat them as fast as they are growing and none of my friends want them.

Dang James! More fishing is needed for sure! I went fishing for more shiners yesterday at the local lake and had a LMB take a swipe at one that was on the light rod. I grabbed a heavier rod and threw the same shiner back in, hooked to a larger hook and 8# line. I caught the LMB, I'm guessing 20"-21" and less than 4#. Big head, smaller body, but he would fill out in the pond, I thought. I put him in the holding cage (4'x4'x4') and as soon as I turned around he jumped out. I guess I need to make a top for it, this is the 2nd time a LMB about this size did that to me.

I took my future nephew for his first fishing trip ever. He'll be 3 in October, so he's a bit young yet. For his age he did well. Stayed interested for almost an hour and we caught 6 bluegill. Hopefully he'll be a fisherman for life now!

I had a little time left after cutting hay yesterday, and a few worms left from fishing with my daughter Saturday. I was rewarded with the best BG fishing I've had all year. I caught 8 nice ones in 45 minutes, including these two males that I transferred to the bachelor pond to keep the SMB/YP/RES company.

Nice BG Theo. The first one has a pug head. A little extra room and food will sure improve their condition.
FWIW yesterday one of the 3 lakes here had active BG spawning. Looks like another year with an added late BG spawn but its 2 weeks early. The other 2 had no spawning activity.

CJ I have 2 truisms about taking kids fishing. One if you want them to have fun and be fishermen then the kids fish and the adults don't (one pole and its the kids). Second fish for something that is going to provide a lot of fast action (BG for example) as you have maybe an hour max of concentration span.
Looks like you knew those already.
