I'm only fifteen years old, but i love to fish out of our relatively new pond (about 3.5 yrs old). We put in 750 Channel Catfish about 3 years ago, 900 Hy. Bluegill about 2 years ago, and 100 Largemouth bass about 1 year ago.
I was fly-fishing in deep water near the dam when i caught a very interesting fish.
it had the coloring of the Hy. Bluegill that we had, but its head was very blunt and it had small beady eyes.
Instantly i noticed that although it was only about 6 inches in length, it fought extremely hard, much more than the bluegill i've been catching.
... we also have a few creek chubs living naturally in the pond aswell. I was wondering if anyone could identify what the bluegill bred with to create the new species.
Thank you.

Welcome to the forum Gray... Always good to have another Virginian on board. Seems to be lots of new Virginians on here lately!
Did you happen to catch a picture of this fish? If so, could you post it? I suspect that would be the only way we could get you an ID on what this mystery fish may be...
So tell us more about your pond? How many acres, max depth, average depth, any other species besides channel cats(CC), hybrid bluegills(HBG), largemouth bass(LMB) and creek chubs?

The pond approx. just over 3 acres (around 3.3)
Max depth- 20-25 feet Avg depth- ~10-12 feet
as for the picture, I'll see if i can catch another as they seem to favor the green drake fly, i have been doing alot of fishing for the last month or so and only have caught one, i will try to set up the same way as before
... i caught the fish around 8:45 PM

Sounds like an interesting mystery... Now you have a mission! Inquiring minds want to know! HAHA
Sounds like you have quite a nice pond, but you left out what other fish you got in there... I am sure you're enjoying your summer break fishing your family pond! Can't be beat...

Always good to have new people. Especially new, young folks. Your question was well worded, and I, like the rest here, are anxious to see this new breed of fightin fish of which you speak. Good luck on catchin and postin'.

CN, he did mention the stockings in the 1st paragraph. Welcome Catfish; sounds like you're having a blast. You actually caught a fish on a fly that looks like a duck? Sorry, I'm weak, and you are new. Hang with us, you will be enlightened and intertained. But no spin. I cant quite picture what the fish could be.

Hey bud, great to have you here. I just got a fly outfit-haven't fly fished since I was your age. I am 52 now and really looking forward to fly fishing my pond. Life is short so fish, hunt and stay active in the outdoors! Catch another one and post the pic for us to enjoy.
Have fun!

Gray, you'll fit in fine around here. Most of us are still teenagers at heart.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
