I have a new friend that is throwing a party over the Memorial Day weekend and is including a fishing tournament to help cull as many stunted bullheads from his 3 acre pond as possible. To make things more interesting he wants to tag some fish ahead of time and award prizes for the tagged fish. He is hoping to tag maybe 50-100 fish before then. Last week 3 guys caught 150 6" bullheads in two hours, so getting fish to tag shouldn't be a problem. I know floy tags would be great, but are not cheap. These tags only need to stay in a month at the most. The tags causing some morts is also not a concern. I had thrown out the idea of clipping fins, but he decided some sort of "bling" on the fish would be more fun to catch, especially after a few beers. So my question to all you PMs is what else (cheap) could be used to tag the fish? I suppose we could " Bedazzle " them. I plan on double tagging some fish and/or clipping fins to calculate tag loss and share the info with the forum. The tagged fish will also be used to get a rough population estimate.

Different patterned hole punches?
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Dave:
That's a good idea. I don't know where to get them, but I've seen single hole punches that aren't round. I've seen stars, squares, triangles, etc.
