What it is going to come down to Jsand is that sooner or later you are going to have to put up a fence and no trespassing signs. We had the same problem that everyone else is describing here. On two occasions went we got to our property we found people fishing on our pond. One group even brought their own boat and were out on our pond fishing in their boat. We would always find beer cans and bottles, fishing line all over (it looked like one person stripped their reel and just threw it on the ground).

For us the last straw was when we found a truck hidden on our property. Turned out the truck was owned by a boy friend of a neighbors wife (yep, you read that correctly) the guy was wanted in two counties and by the California Highway Patrol. That was it for us. We fenced our only open property line and posted no trespassing signs all over the place. California has fairly good rules in regards to trespassing if it's fenced and posted then you can call the sheriff and have them arrested.

As far as your neighbors go, if they are friendly then I'd cut them some slack and let them walk on the property. A good neighbor can be a real asset. Just talk with them and let them know that you don't want anyone else on your property without your permission.

I feel your pain JS, age is only a number, if you are on my land without permission, you are going to raise my hackles and suffer my wrath. I have 130 rural acres I live on, hunt and fish on, and I pay the mortgage and taxes on myself. I also have a neighbor who has an 1/8th acre lot with a house on it and he used to see fit to let his dog crap in my yard, I don't like dog crap or my neighbor, for obvious reasons. I have the firearms and heavy equipment here to make short work of disposing of said dog and said neighbor, neither one is popular with current laws, but I have made it quite clear to him I don't like him and won't tolerate him or his pets on my land.

I have been here 13 years and haven't had trouble with hunters since the 3rd or 4th year, but we hunt hard and heavy and doing so we maintain a presence during the season. I patrolled the woods the entire first season, didn't get a deer I was so busy removing "we've always hunted here" types. One fellow said he knew the land had been purchased but didn't know who the new owner was??? Never bothered to knock on my door and ask??? I heard one local man talking about me and my posted property at the hardware one day, not knowing who I was as I laid my items onthe counter, he told the store owner "that guy is an A-hole about kicking people off his land," I smiled as the store owner glanced at me, knowing full well who I was, I paid for my stuff and left. I'm happy that people don't want to meet me on my property, I am not the government and my land is not a park. That is among the problems with the country these days, people want everything for nothing, gimme gimme gimme, enough of my rant, I'm off to cut firewood so I can stay warm this winter, I am sure I earn too much money to get free heating assitance from the gov'ment.

Having hunters on your land JoeG is an entirely diffent issue to me. The though of someone coming onto my property and discharging a firearm would not go over well with me either.

We reached out to the local game warden and signed the minimal paperwork to give him unfettered access to our property and arrest trespassers. I am sure that we are just another on the long list, but having that marked vehicle parked at my drive on rare ocassion is better than nothing.

One of my favorite property signs.

I think I would put up a couple of signs saying "No fishing. Yes, this means you dammit".

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Since I posted these signs around our property we have had neither trespassers nor poachers. In fact no one has even asked to fish or hunt since I put them up.

That look could have provided security at Altamont.

How big are you Dwight? You're not like Sylvester Stalone, big and bad in pictures but short little dude in person?

He is a 75" - 260 pounder. Big enough.

When I bought my place, the old man had put in an odd gate made of 1" steel cable. Said he was tired of of dumpers pushing on the gate until the welds busted loose so they could dump. We made it a point to have a big party one weekend with my buddies that own some pretty heavy artillery. Made it a weekend of target and skeet shooting, and blowing up stuff with Tannerite. I have not seen a trace of a trespasser now that the locals think I am crazy .

I do think that tommorow sometime i will go and have a talk with the neighbors. I was going to today but they had company over and didn't figure I would bother them. I did put up no fishing signs all along the old fencr between the house and the pond and took flagging tape and orange spray paint and made sure they can see where the property line is. Don't think they will have any problems finding it now!

Dang. Those were my optimum size & weight back when I was a defensive end.

Of course, I never got within a hundred pounds of it in those days, but I'm a lot closer now.

Is this with or without using the Condello photo technique?

Acknowledging that they’re reacting to the recent wave of cattle rustlings, 17 House members introduced the Missouri Right to Protection Act in February, which would allow property owners to shoot to kill anyone threatening them or their property. Current law allows such a response only inside the home or an automobile but not out of doors — where the cattle and the thieves are.

I know you probably made the Texas reference in jest, but I just wanted to clarify that in Texas, you cannot shoot to kill just because someone is threatening you on your property. Texas did, however, expand the Castle Doctrine (no duty to retreat) to places like vehicles and workplace.

I have a ton of problems with trespassing and littering by my place. Just this past winter someone dropped off a really nice 18'tri-hull loaded with shingles. Luckily most of these people are dumb, this guy left his registration numbers on the boat. Several other people in the past left bank statements, pay stubs, mail in their dump pilesetc. A guy this past fall dumped a freezer, someone I know saw him doing it. A buddy and myself threw it in my truck, backed in his driveway and returned it. I've tried to be nice in kicking of trespassers, he only way you get any respect is to hammer them every time.

First, I'd never go near a pond with a wanted poster that had a picture like this -- even if I knew he was a meek and mild Minnesotan.

Second, I had two guys on 4-wheelers on my dam last fall. They own five acres adjacent to me, and they come out from Baltimore to drink and raise hell on weekends. It was between dusk and dark. I shouted at them to get off my property. They gave me the famous digit of defiance. It was turkey season. My loaded 12-gauge was just inside basement door.

Even at my advanced age, I had never before seen the night-time flash that comes out of the end of a shotgun. Geeze, a 12-gauge blast it is big, bright, and impressive against the night-time sky.

I still hear these guys on their neighboring property, but they haven't been back.

Dwight's photos have inspired me to state the following:

One from the 80's holding a nice bass on the water he used as his signature - I gotta have more cowbell, baby! [I hope someone gets this]

[I can't take credit for the following analogy] : I would love to have a resident Sasquatch roaming the property to give any potential trespassers a little shock. You look big, bad, and liable to rip an arm off.

Both of these observations with the deepest respect, Dwight!
