can someone please tell me a rough estimate on how much it would cost to build and keep running a 3-5 acre pond thanks and have a great day

No way to estimate cost without specific site knowledge. Stopping up an area between 2 hills costs less than digging a hole in the ground. Things get more complicated after that. If you hit sand, all bets are off. So, coring is a pretty good idea. What is the makeup of the dirt? All of these things are variables. There are a lot more.
As far as maintenance goes, it all depends on your goals, location, etc.

Look for prices to range from $55-$75 per hour for man & machine. That's not bad if you get something in the D6 class, they move a LOT of dirt fast. If they price by the cubic yard, I think I was quoted at $1.10. You have many variables involved, I wouldn't expect to build a 3 acre pond/lake for less than $7K...given excellent conditions.
