Let's show those guys down south what the other seasons are all about. There is a special beauty and peacefulness about a blanket of white. Everybody with some ice in their veins is invited to post their frozen passion.

Brettski, I'll be the first to say how beautiful that is. But all that white stuff reminds me of why I live in the South.
Sho is purdy though.

It was 21 degrees with a 30 mph wind if there had been snow on the ground this post would have been mid day not in the middle of the night.

BUT THE SNOW IS VERY PRETTY!!!!

OK, Bski - what's staked out with the orange flags?

uhhhh....my loan officer called. He's concerned that I haven't borrowed any money for awhile.
Seriously (and actually, the above sentence is pretty close to serious), we staked the entire building site around the perimeter, then a couple in the center. We shot elevations and took measurements to create a map for planning. In the video, I stop at the end for a pan shot. This is taken from the center of where the ground level deck might be for the next structure to be built. We are currently weighing many factors against cash flow for the coming year. The jury is still out.

First were you following those small animal tracks around as you did the vid. ? \:D

Is the staked location on the dam ? B'ski you should know better than to give us half a story - what is the full deal? ;\)

Nah, the dam is at the other end of the pond.
The staked area is the building pad that was built up during pond excavation. This is the area that the soils analyst recently poo-poo'd for my proposed septic field (between the proposed structures and the pond....just in front of the place where I stop with the vid). This poo-poo'ing is another of the numerous facets of cost and engineering that are being considered for the coming year.
Right now, there really isn't alot more to the story.

great video brettski. i love having cable internet, i used to miss out on alot of stuff.

you should PM JHAP about the eco johns.......they are not cheap up front, but you wont ever need a septic system for them. then you just need to handle gray water from the house.

it snows MAYBE once a year here in el dorado, here's a couple pics of one two years ago, and a couple pics of the only time my pond froze up in 12 years of living here. enjoy,

This is the only photo that I have with snow around our pond. It was taken by a neighbor from the neighbors property looking towards ours. The "sticks" in the foreground are the neighbor's vineyard. As DIED said snow at our elevations (less than 2,500 feet) is a somewhat rare occurance. It does happen but most of the time doesn't linger for long.

Oh and Died, I already mentioned the Eco-John to Bski.

LIAR!

The weather forcast for our slice of Northern California is predicting snow down to 1,500 feet beginning tonight through tomorrow night. IIRC Died is at about 1,300 feet. My place is at 2,100 ft.

Oh the weather outside is frightful,
The Redeared Sunfish are gonna be spiteful,
But since they've got no place to go,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

cant wait. supposed to be a pretty good storm. we are at about 1500 feet, and the ridge above us varies from 1800 to 2000 at its highest, so we have a good shot at getting the white stuff. i'll have the camera ready.

Looks pretty enough to me, and certainly representative of the Winter.

Is that a privy or an ice fishing shanty? (Either way, there's a hole in the floor.)

...I think the underlying story about the water level is kinda interesting, too. You didn't plan on a picnic bench on the ice...did ya?

The little building was built as a privy - but was never used. My uncle decided to dig a springhouse, pump water with a generator and put in a real bathroom at the camp - and the building was just the right size to cover the 8ft hole.

The ladies really seem to prefer an indoor bathroom, especially when it's 20 below.

If you have power go for the heated toilet seat, it might save some skin on the behind !
