Is it possible to damn a existing old creek to make a successful fishing hole? Maybe just a pool of water big enough for some blue gills and a catfish or 2? \:\) Or will heavy rains wash the fish over the damn?

Hi, Bob here not sure how it would work, I have an evcavated 1/3+ acre pond with a 4 ft wide spillway and found out this year with all the rain we have had that I had to put a screen across it to keep the minnows and 2 inch or less bluegill from going over. The first hard rain must have had about 75 little gills go over but the daughters had fun rescueing them so yes it is probably quite possible but you have to look at the overflow situation. But will add none of my channel cats went over the spillway.

Last year our pond had the outflow tube get plugged up in a big storm and totally filled to overflowing. We found out at the time that the emergency spillway had silted in and was actually higher than the middle of the dam even though it really didn't look like it. The water washed over much of the middle of the dam up to about 2" deep. The backside of the dam was covered with hundreds of tiny bluegill, I'd say less than 1 1/2" or so in length, most less than 3/4". Didn't see any other species but lots of these poor baby bluegill.

I know this is a different situation, but I'd think pretty much the same thing would likely happen with what you are talking about.
