While peering into my fish trap I found what appears to be a 1.5 inch long catfish. The pond is in Iowa and is 1.5 acres with no nesting structures. The little fish had 3 sharp needle like things on its head, one on each side and one on the top of its head. There are several channel catfish of various sizes in the pond. Could this be offspring or some other midget catfish species? Thanks, Kevin

It is probably a Channel Catfish but that is not enough information to be certain. Do you remember if the tail was forked?
If it was forked than it is Channel Catfish, if it was flat then it is some type of Bullhead.
