I am just finishing up my first bag of fish food. I throw one scoop that is probably 2 cups of food and I now have catfish going crazy every evening when I feed. I only throw one time a day and the catfish have this gone within 2 minutes. Recently, I have seen bluegill hovering around and I will throw a few pellets and they nibble at it. But, when the catfish appear, I don't think any other fish can get into the the fray.

My first question is how do I know how much to feed? If the catfish clear this scoop within 2 minutes, should I feed more at one time, or feed more than twice a day?

Second, if I feed the catfish in the same area every night, would throwing some feed in a different location give the other fish a chance at feeding?

You want all of the feed to be gone in about 15 minutes.

If you can feed twice a day that should help reduce competition and allow more fish to feed. Feeding in different area will also help. I believe Theo Gallus has said that the fish that are not near the feeding area are thinner even though it is a small pond.

wazzle, if you spread the feed out over a larger area, it will likely give the BG a better chance to feed away from the catfish.

Thanks for the responses. I went home and threw out the first scoop and waited for the hoovers to arrive. Then about 20 feet away, I threw more, the bluegill started feeding immediately. Thanks again guys.
