My computer crashed recently and I lost the web site for multi-species weight/length calculator. Species ID with length would determine weight or weight vs length.
IIRC it was discussed on the forum at some time and was a dowwn-load from a fishing site.
Help would be appeciated.

George the standard estimator is :
L X G X G / 800 this is used on many game fish :
another used for LMB is
L X L X G / 1000 (link says 1200 ?) it accounts for more streamline LMB the peruse pelagic fish like TShad
I use both and average.

Does anyone have a fish scale that is less than fifty dollars that they like and is accurate? I really like my friends boga grip but I balked at the 110 dollar price tag.

I use both and average. Appreciate the familiar length/girth measuement calculations but this was a handy quick and dirty download program to click on the species, enter length and weight would be displayed. Reasonable RW comparison - I found it quite useful -sorry I lost it.

What weight range are you looking to measure, James? Rapala has 0-20 and 0-50 lbs digital scales for about $20 (at least when I bought mine about 3 years ago). I have the 50 pounder and I like it; I have never checked it for accuracy, though.

George, I can help with this. I am pretty sure that what you are talking about is from a pond management website called Inspired By Nature at: http://www.ibnature.com. On the home page look at the lower right corner under Fish Info. The download fish calculator for the desk top is there. I use mine often. This is a virus safe and spam free site. I know the fellow well who created the "Fish Calculator". In creating the fish calculator, he used the standard weights and formulas provided in Dr Willis' Fishery Techniques book. POSTSCRIPT - As of 2009 Inspired By Nature has removed the Fish Calculator from their website. The author of the program has given me permission to send it to Pond Boss Members. Contact me for a copy of it.

George - Glad to help. Thanks for the kind words. The more I learn the more I realize that there is a lot more to learn. The Fish Calculator is a very good and handy tool especially since each species in it is based on the standard weight equations in the Fishery Techniques book edited by Dr Dave Willis and Brian Murphy.
Update - As of 2009, apparently the Fish Calculator is no longer available on the Inspired By Nature website. The author of the program has given me permission to share the progran to Pond Boss members. You can contact me directly if you want a copy of the program.
