This morning during my pond Hike I noticed that there was something lying on the barge deck. I went to investigate and found a 6 inch Yellow Perch. There was no evidence of any bird or other wildlife damage to the fish. It was just lying there dead and drying.
So why would a 6 inch YP shoot up into the air? My theory is that it was trying to escape some underwater predator and in that effort launched itself skyward and ended up on the barge. When your number is up, one way or another your number is up!

Or, he was so enthralled by the new barge that he just had to see it for himself.
Excerpt from Robert Crais' "The Monkey's Raincoat:" "She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."

Dwight,
Sounds like its time to setup the grill and frying pan on the Bremer Party Barge. The dinner guests are jumping at the chance for an invitation.

I've had trout jump up on an ice shelf or the bank but yellow perch aren't know for jumping. However I did have one exception. I was fishing the big pond one day and had a fish on that cleared the water two or three times. I assumed it was one of the smallmouth. Low and behold it turned out to be a large perch!
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

The black crappie in my pond will occasionally jump and they do this a lot when hooked. Some will jump 2 or 3 times just like a smallmouth. Go figure.
Gotta get back to fishin!

We just had a 58 mph wind gust from the north! If they are jumping out of the water tonight they won't be landing on the barge, a few hundred feet south maybe.

It may have been a small egret or heron that couldn't get that YP down the hatch. Get ready to find more "stuff" on your barge. I have a water turkey that occasionally sits on my floating deck and leaves me a gift. A very large gift... about the size of a 5 gallon bucket lid. Been finding dead BG on my levee with little more than the tails eaten off. Must be mink. I think an otter would eat a lot more of it.

Come to think of it I've got a family of crows that visit my ponds every day and love dead fish. If I find any dead fish I throw them up on the bank the crows make short order of them. They also move them around and I've had them move a fish to the pier.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.
