DIED that is just great... I love when people do something different and don't just plant boring grass. Those wildflowers are top notch! Were they a part of the hydroseed mix?

looking forward to it eric. i seem to remember spots around yer pond that look like they could be "way out west".

cj, thanks, those big bush lupines were native here. the poppys and smaller lupines were from the hydroseed job. its been fun to watch it each year, but also sad to see it decline mostly because of three consecutive dry years, some call it a drought.

Really a great looking set up DIED. I am a fan of the natural look. So many ponds look over manicured. I really like yours, it looks natural but kept at the same time. Just a great look, well done...

How come most of the land in California looks like it's been manicured, you ride for miles and the fields are green with scattered trees. It seems like the only unruly forest land is in the mountains.
My daughter loves it there, and with the high costs it's good her husband has a govmt. job.

Beautiful pictures. I do miss how pretty it is there in the spring time.

One of the funny things about moving to Texas is when it's green there, it's brown here, and when it's brown here, it's green there. Our grass goes dormant in the winter and turns brown for about two to three months. Then from about now and until December, it's green and lush here.

AP, 150 yrs of grazing is largely responsible for that "look".

burger, its cool, yes, the poppys are growing right out of the bedrock. they dont like competition (i.e. other grasses and stuff) and have evolved to grow in the worst possible places, which really makes them ideal. they are the only plant from the hydroseed mix increasing in number year to year. each flower stem will have a large seed pod containing dozens of seeds that literally "pop open" when they dry out scattering the seed as far as 10 feet.

Hmmm... Now I am even more suspicious DIED. It is the resin from the seed head that is used. HAHA

DIED

I really like the topography of your landscape - and your pics of the flora surrounding your pond are always killer. Are those naturally occuring species of flowers or did you go through the process of sowing?

got it rainman..

cj:
in the infamous words of Sergeant Schulz......."i know notheenk"

tj:
so you dont have to go back through this entire thread, those big lupines were native here, and we only nursed them along by keeping weeds out of them and not mowing babies. the poppys and smaller lupines are from the hydroseed mix which was laid down in late 2005. we never had to sow, just kind of protect them by removing unwanted competition once things started to take hold.

the topography is quite steep. its can be very pretty to look at but not much fun to mow, weed eat, spray, or even walk on for an extended period of time. when we get downed trees or some such and i have to work on some of our slopes to clean things up.......it ages me. flat land here is a premium. suffice it to say i'm quite happy w/ a "natural" landscape \:\)
