I am not sure how long to wait on addressing the water color. I can see my hand about 6" deep. The pond is only 1/2 full & I worry if future run off will only cloud it again. A local older gentleman who dug a bunch of ponds on this & ajoining property said the water clears, but is always "stained" by soil. I have another 1 acre pond that stays "muddy" looking, but with a jar tests, it's clear after hour or two..this may be the wrong thread for me to bring up problem..du

We got a 2" rain about 3 weeks ago. There is lots of vegetation around pond. Only where water runs down embankment & the inside of the dam does the dirt get washed in during a rain event. The watershed is undisturbed pasture & non-eroded gullies..du

This is just my opinion, but there is a new generation of pond owners who do not follow traditional standards. In general, we use our ponds for recreation, and have money to support our hobby. We know how to clear water, grow giant fish, and have fish feeders, aerators, and water wells to boot. Listen to older philosophies, many have merit, but there are many here who push fish and their habitat to the extereme. "If" I owned that property, I would cure it 1/2 full to get the forage base in place. What do you really have to lose, with 6" visibility it can only be a catfish pond.

These final two photos are to put this thread to bed. They sort of illustrate what I was trying to accomplish in 2006 when this project started. This was last weekend, and though there aren't any big fish yet, it was a real pleasure to go out and just enjoy the view...du

Pretty neat David. You and your wife have worked hard and it has paid off.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Congrats Dave, I told you it would clear up and boy did it ever. It is beautiful and that pavilion really makes it stand out from the rest.

Congratulations on a job well done! When can all the Texas PMs convene under that pavilion for some bbq and fishing??

Thanks for the "atta boy". There's comfort in knowing you all have gone through the same ups and downs of pond meistering and can relate to the joy of "gettin er done".. Would like to have a BBQ sometime for other PB folks if there is a desire to have a local meeting in the future...du
