After 5 years of planning and saving I just closed on 35 acres just north of Paris TX. Flat hay meadow with some trees.

The soil is sandy loam with a good deal of clay and I'm looking to break ground on a new pond next summer. I bought several books from this website and have been reading the forums for quite some time. I got a hold of the folks at Texoma Hatcheries and I'm looking to get some online as well as professional help.

Welcome to PB. I see you are in Wisconsin and bought land in Texas. Are you retiring or? BTW, lose the snow shovel.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Welcome Kaiserzolzay. We got to get you a shorter name \:D .

I'm surprised north of Paris in that delta country you found sandy loam, but I'm glad for you.

I have only been on the forum for a little over a month but have learned a lot and am learning how much more there is to know.

It's a great site and hope to hear more from you.

Bill

Welcome, KSolz!

Good job on getting the books. They are a key element in the learning process.

Can't wait to watch as your project develops.

Thanks for the links to other threads. Here's my thoghts so far. I've downloaded the contour map from USGS and it's relatively flat so location is open there.

I want to set it up near a home site for future use. I'm hoping for 1-3 acres, depending on cash flow and what the land will support. I would like to use it for fishing and waterfowl. A small island for a duck habitat would be ideal. That's where I'm at so far. Now I have to figure out how to make it all fit together.

Here is one more link from the archives.

The map is small but one promising item is the number of ponds in the area. While all parcels are different it looks like the general area will work for pond construction.
