pellets for largemouth bass yet? I finally was able to get my supplier to order it, and used it for the first time tonight. At first the bass came up to it and wondered what in the hell that was. \:D Then a few brave souls inhaled a few pellets and most of them caught on. But I still have a few that have their doubts. I'm sure they will all catch on soon especially if that is all they have to eat. \:D

On a funny note I had a 9 inch bluegill try and clobber one of them! Of course it was like one of us trying to swallow a bowling ball. \:D

Fed again this morning and more bass are taking to them including some smallmouth bass that are only about 12 inches! I should get a pic of this same bluegill that keeps attacking them. It's pretty funny. He must have genes for agressiveness!

Oh the dog thinks they're great treats!

I bought a bag of giant pellets. My smallmouth eat them better than the largemouth. After 1 week they seem to prefer the smaller pellets. I will definitely keep trying though.

I noticed maybe %20 sink.

Bluegill love to peck on them.

I bought Aqua Max Grower 400 recently for Mr. H. they're the first fish pellets I've seen and I was surprised how small they were, smaller than BB's. Is that the typical size for fish pellets?

No! they come in all sizes up to 600 and of course the special largemouth pellets we are talking about here that are the size of chunks of dog food. My largemouth really like them now. The bluegill attack them too although they are too big!

Cecil that is one of the reasons I have been adding the Aqua Max Largemouth, the fact that the bluegill don't get it all before the predators have a chance.

Your bluegills are more agressive than your largemouth bass? You either need to send you bass to basic training or start marketing your bluegills!

I have a plan to use those big pellets to nail some of my grass carp. The GC like Aquamax but are shy of panty hose arrangements. I have had trouble getting a big enough hook into a GC to hold onto it during the fight. Am thinking I can condition the GC to take the big pellets, and that they will float a big enough hook to land them with.

Doc, try a #2 Mustad "Ultra Point" Drop Shot Hook.
I landed a 14.5 GC on a "cluster" of AQMX pellets encased in panty hose.

As you know, they are leader shy - I'm using Berkley "Fireline Crystal" 14# test/6# diameter leader material - 10 wt Sage RPLX fly rod.
A \:D reel with a good drag helps...

They were breaking me off before I tried this technique.
Good luck.. \:\)

How big are these pellets?

I would love to keep a bag around for those special ocassions (every night) that I hand feed the fish.

Big! I'd say 18 mm?

Stay tuned for a clip of the hand feeding of largemouth and smallmouth with them. I will even have bluegills pushing them around on the suface.

I couldn't find it on Purina fish feed site. Does anyone have a link, or is it too new to have advertised on internet?

I was just at Purina's Fish Feed website today here - go to "product" - (getting the product number for Aquamax 600) and they did not have Aquamax Largemouth on it yet.

IME they are really slow at updating the website.

I finally got mine. I first threw a handful and they swam after the pellets as they were flying (which I think is about the coolest thing ever) and devoured them as soon as they hit. Then I threw in a whole cup full and they didn't feed to good. The catfish got most of them. Then I threw some of the smaller pellets in and they mostly ate the small ones. The rest of the feeding was hard to tell what was eating because it wasn't so frenzied.
This evening I'm going to try a whole cup when they are the most vicious. Did I spell that right because that is the best word to describe black bass eating?

The first picture is a little late. Some are already eating!
Fed last night and got a pretty good response and fed more than I normally feed till they almost quit. Fed the smaller pellets and they attacked it again which says to me that only a percentage are eating.
Now if Bob can just get Purina to make a large catfish pellet. My large catfish eat untill the feed gets scattered a little and then quit. Those tiny pellets just get pushed to the side to fast.

I know. That is the point . They are eating while the pellets are still in the air. Quick - huh.

Here is some info on growth in feed trained LMB fingerlings. They grow fast.

Micropterus salmoides were evaluated under controlled conditions in aquaria for 12 weeks. Feed-trained juvenile largemouth bass (15.7 ± 0.6 g) .....and were fed one of five experimental diets .... Fish were fed twice daily to apparent satiation .... weight gain (595%), specific growth rate (2.2% per day), feed conversion ratio (1.5),

For those of you that want to order this special Aquamax largemouth bass feed it's called Largemouth 5DA1. There is also a number on the label of 0066904.

It's 45 % protein
10.0 % Crude Fat
3.0 % Crude Fiber
and a max of 10 % Ash

and ruminant meant and bonemeal free.

Not sure if will fit in a feeder but I heard talk at the convention about Sweeney making adaptions for it.
