When I use super glue on a fly, I place it in a container of ground up fish food to mask the odor.
Last week when I tied a DD1 version of a pellet fly with a liberal dose of super glue, I fished it w/o flavored fish food.

BG would swim to the fly and refuse it.

I remembered an old “deep East Texas” trick and placed a big wad of spittle on the fly - 1st cast a mojo CNBG and 2nd cast a 4.5 HSB...

Anyone else ever heard of this or just a redneck thing? \:D

I remember reading an article in Outdoor Life years ago where they field tested several spray attractants and spit. The spit worked as well as anything you could buy. It did say that fish were opposed to the smell of human sweat on the lure.

Well, george...we've never kissed, so I can't comment.

George,

I suppose you "dip" your zebco 202 reel in the water too?

: )

You may be an East Texas red neck if you had a Budwiser Beer can bass lure in your tacklebox.

You may be an East Texas red neck if you owned a Red Wiggler worm farm.

We could start a book.

My ex-wife and dear friend once told me about a friend of her fathers who was an avid fisherman. He was also extremely meticulous in the organization and care of his tackle. The odd thing was that this dedicated fisherman rarely caught fish.

One of the ways he maintained his tackle in nearly perfect condition was to generously spray each hook, swivel and lure with WD40.

PS. Urban legend? It has the proper components.

Some people say that WD-40 is the best fish attractant out there.

Actually to be fair George - spittin on lures DOES work, much better than WD40. \:D

I used some pellet flies and soaked them in fish oil vitamin supplements. The fish wouldn't touch them. I thought I had come up with a streak of brilliance but it worked out like my usual experiments.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

The DD1 pellet fly that George talks about was created out of my ignorance and ineptness. I just wasn't doing any good on wrapping panty hose around a couple of pieces of 2 to 3 mm foam so I found some thicker (about 5mm) foam at Michaels and just super glued the hook on top of it. I use a standard paper hole punch ($2.00) and it is the perfect size.

I gave a piece of it to George in a dark brown color. George, as usual, came up with a better idea of cutting a 1/16 inch slice through the top and putting the hook in the sliced area and Super Gluing the hook into the groove. I use an Exacto knife and can make about 20 in a short time. Last night I punched out some green and yellow ones and will give these a try this weekend.

I also came up with a stupid guys black nymph. Use a number 10 long shank hook, not a long cricket hook, and wrap a small piece of black velcro around it. It has a decent glue on the back. Super Glue at the ouside fold. It floats and looks good to me. I'll also try it this weekend. I've never seen velcro in any color but black or would try to change it up.

One of the real keys to doing this neatly and cleanly is to NOT use the Super Glue that comes in the metal tube. Buy the stuff in the small squeeze bottle. Press on the red sides and you get a small amount that you can control. BTW, if you goof and glue your fingers together (I've done it), the instructions on the glue say to put some cooking oil between the stuck fingers and start rotating those stuck fingers in a circular motion. Haven't had to try it yet.

Both of these appear to be fairly indestructible and George caught a 4.5 pound HSB on the pellet fly.

I think even I could make a pellet fly with superglue, DD.

IIRC acetone (as in fingernail polish remover one might be able to score off the Mrs.) also will help unstick superglued fingers.
