Rocky, the name thing is a pure coincidence. You might want to look a product called CWF for your cedar. I lived in a cedar home and had the distinct honor of taking care of it for many years.I found CWF to offer the best and longest protection for the cedar. It is not a stain so it will not change the natural color. I was very happy with the product.

Well the sikkens and/or CWF product same or not must be good stuff. I googled the two names at the same time and the first thing that poped up was a forum called powerwashers net. All the members were in the wood maintainance stripping business and they were all complaining about how hard it is to remove. So it must be good stuff. I'll see if I can find a local supplier. Thinks guys for the inputs.

Rocky, That is some nice looking metal work. Are you going to install openers on the gates? I saw CWF in Home Depot last week.

Thanks Ron, I'll check out the depot. The property is pasture land at the moment so I'm not going to install the openers at this time but I'm designing it so that dual gate openers can be added in the future when a residents is built on the property. Thanks again

Ive been trying to come up with an entrance into my place and i love that one on the front page from Colorado. Do yall think its possible to re-create that here? I live in Ennis. Maybe not as big as that one but, would i need a crane or would my frontend loader do it? Where would i get the trees?

JHFV, that's the reason I opted against it "Where would i get the trees?" Eddie says he has some for sale and even some so big his dozer want move them. Even shipping as close as east texas wouldn't be very cheap to this area. Good luck, the steel monster I'm creating is about all my little tractor and loader can handle. If you do end up needing a crane you can call out a crane truck service they are not to expensive.

Thought I would update this. The project has been on hold due to a mid life chrsis hot rod build. I finally got back to it this past weekend. I was trying to get the supports lined up,leveled and set but we had a 30 mph head wind that made it very difficult so we aboarded until this weekend. I at least got the supports in the holes and off the side of the barn were they have been leaning for well over a year now. The final plan (maybe) can been seen in the doctored photo below.

As far as Dry-creek we got lucky with this pond. We haven't had a runoff event sense aug and the pond is only down about a foot. My ponds just 3 miles away are all down 4 ft or more as are many ponds in the area.

It is still for sale. Any DFW or Waco PONDBOSS wanabees out there?

Yes, the grass grew in the middle of it, doesn't look as good as it did originally, assume it is a bit thin, but it is a very good base for a completed drive some day, and I can't complain about the cost.

Saturday I had a concrete truck pull in. I poured the gate footings and also poured the culvert in front. I used some old I beam I had and welded rebar to it and was planning only to concrete each side that had been washing out. I only did this to be able to get a truck out which has a 4 yard min. After working all day Friday getting it ready I estimnated with the tumbs up method I needed 6 yards. Turned out I kinda over did it. The mud just kept coming out. We had enough to pour 4 inches across the entire 20 ft. Too bad I didn't plan better I would have had steel in place. It will crack eventually but the ends are ancored in good so the I beam can be used to install rails or pour an entire drive in from the pavement eventually.

Thanks for the update. It's nice to see it all come together, regardless of how long it takes. All of my projects are the same way. I do so much, then move on to something more pressing. I tell myself that when I get caught up, it will be real fast to finish all those projects off. If I say it enough, it just might become the truth!!! LOL

What's 3000# psi concrete goin' for down there? It's $85 - $90 per yard by me.

Nice job RT. If you are going to continue a fence off the gate supports, then would suggest pipe or heavy tubing winged at 45 degrees off existing gate supports before leaving gate open for any period of time. Here in Texas the soils dry & move so much that it will lean in short order no matter how deep the support posts are set.



I built this gate entrance to where I live & there is a 2 7/8" pipe fence support structure covered by the brick veneer. I also tied the pipe supporting the gate hinges to the pipe on the other end of the gate with an underground pipe before pouring the concrete. This is in lieu of using an overhead header pipe. I make a living going to different farms & ranches doing vet work & have seen about every kind of gate/fence/corral construction, and I firmly believe you can't over engineer it here in Texas...du

DU very very nice entrance, I fully agree with what you are saying. I had planned to add some very heavy cedar post approximately 2 or 3 thousand pounds to each end of the current supports and ancor them to the supports, but the Boss put her foot down and wants them installed at our home place that already has a rustic cedar fence. The gates end supports with the added concrete footings now far out weigh the gates and should do the job of taking the moments created by the gates out of the equation. I also ran a dead leg to counter act the moments when the gates are swung open. Besides I think I have the place sold so it looks like I want be finishing this project anyway. I have had a nipple for about a month now and I thank when they saw this erected it set the hook. Wish me luck I hope the new owner has to finish it. As I said I agree with you and will fwd the advice.
