Got a good dusting this morning in southern middle Tennessee. Dustings are about all we seem to get anymore.

i was blown away when i read this article:

heat happens

for those interested in reading about alternate viable and scientifically supported theories (i.e. long term data from ice cores and other cool stuff), i really thought it is worth reviewing if you missed it the first time i posted it. the punch line deals with the CO2 budget, and that the data strongly suggests the cyclical warming is responsible for the rise in CO2 (i.e. its a self-fed system).

Dave, I have seen that data and other longer term data like the magnetic fields in the rocks which show the poles shifting.
I.e.

http://www.pureenergysystems.com/news/2005/02/27/6900064_Magnet_Pole_Shift/

http://www.barry.warmkessel.com/barry/8related.html

...etc.

I also saw in a few articles that one volcano puts out more stuff to cause glbal warming than all of the man made stuff for a year.

Its always interesting to me that if we try to look at the relative short term data ( < 1000 years ) and try to extrapolate that to something we are bound to come up with an incomplete at best but more likely incorrect answer.

I saw that documentary about the magnetism of rock core samples (I believe it was volcanic rock) that showed how the earth's magnetism has changed over the years.

It seemed to me to be fairly conclusive that we are very small subsets of cycles within the much, much greater cycles of the cosmos, so much so that our own cycles might be insignificant (barring man-made catastrophe).

I've got a call into Al Gore because: 1) I'm having trouble with the internet today; and 2) I'd like him to make a documentary about my pond.

Sunil,

Wasn't he the person who dug your pond???? Or was he the one who invented water??? Can never tell or remember.

I am also having probs with the internet today. I am sure the storm is screwing things up a bit in the hubs.

So far an additional 8 inches today bringing total to 24 inches so far from the storm.

Final tally for yesterday and last night's snow and freezing rain: 6 hours. That's how long it took to get it off 1300 feet of driveway and 2 parking lots.

Of course, by this measure, upstate NY got like a couple months of snow.

Brettski, I saw the same pic in an email this week. It must have been taken last year after total antler shed due to the absence of any horns.

Truth be told, I swiped it from Dave Davidson. I believe it is one of the few northern tier retirement communities that he will seriously consider.

Our power just came back on. Lots of ice everywhere. We have a couple of big tree branches (willow tree) that broke overnight and hanging over the driveway. To big for me to mess with and I'm getting to old. We ended up getting more freezing rain then snow.

We had a couple inches of new snow added to our existing depth, followed by 30 mph winds. That was good for some cool 2 foot snow drifts to drive through on the way to various places. (Good clean, yet challenging fun)

Tonight we are going down to 15 degrees below zero. Pond ice is a solid 20 inches and increasing.

In response to this statement Eric made to my post: "I agree that there is some going on but like you I think its more natural events causing it."

Actually I didn't say that. I said:

"I'm a big believer that the globe is warming (we have data that shows that) although what percentage of it is caused by man and what percentage of it is a natural cycle I'm not sure."

;\)

Cecil,

I was agreeing with you as well. I think there is truly global warming but how much is caused by man is in question in my mind. I guess I wan't as clear on here as it was in my mind when I put it down. \:D Ahhh either brain freeze here or senior moments!!!

Yeah but how many ponds can you have there with that "dry heat?"

Only if the swimming pool has aquatic life in it.

To Dam or not to dam

That isn't even a question

I have been following this thread with some interest.I find it simply amazing the things you learn on this website.Newfacts I learned reading this thread
I didnt have any idea about the volcanoes, but it does make sense when you think about it
I personally dont think man (without catastrophy)
can/will have much of an effect on the planet.
That there are so many informed opinions in the members here, hats off to you all.
I did know al gore invented the internet but didnt know he invented water.
That said,he has also invented time travel to go back in time and create it before man got here to use it.
Lastly Ive decided we're all wasting valuable time, money and resources when we just need to go get al and have him solve all the words problems so I can stay home, drink more beer and fish
Respectfully submitted Tom g

I'm no Al Gore fan but he didn't say he invented the internet. It's an urban legend probably made up by a poltical opponent.

Check it out:

Got to Snopes.com and type in "Al Gore Internet" in the search window.
