Brettski, 3-5 inches here after the rain/freezing drizzle changed over to snow last night. The winds chills are going to be brutal here tomarrow. We have 9-1/2" to 10" of ice on the pond now, this is the thickest ice I have seen in years at our pond. The ice cover should also help with controlling some of the weeds in the pond. It also looks like I will get to go ice fishing a couple of more times this month. Click the HAMweather link in my signature for current weather conditions in our area.

We got 5"-6" of snow this AM before it switched to freezing/frozen rain; there's about 1/2" of that laying on top of the snow with more (all night) to come. Fortunately it doesn't seem to be sticking to trees or power lines.

we got about 6 inches with 2 to 3 on the ground before the storm so about 8 or 9 inches on the ground hard to tell as it is blowing around and is either 5 feet deep or an inch

Pure absolute yuck!
We got 3-4 inches of snow earlier today. Now it is raining hard -- and 24 degrees F. They say we are going to get about an inch of ice tonight, then 60 mph winds tomorrow afternoon before we get another 2-4 inches of snow. The TV guys are saying we should prepare for power outages.
I think my fish are looking up through the ice and laughing from their warm and cozy muck.

I stopped on the way home from work and filled up my gas cans just in case we need the generator. Lots of slush on the roads right now but when it turns cold again tonight and tomorrow it is going to be a skating rink. Come on spring!!!!

We are sitting with 3-4 ft on ground now and expecting another 2 ft tonight. But I feel good about that. About 90 miles east of me one town got 11-12 ft of snow over the past 5 days and expects another 4 ft out of this storm. They are truly sitting or will be sitting on 196 inches of snow over a weeks time!!!! Now imagine the run off for the pond when that starts to melt. At about 1 inch of rain for every 10 inches of snow. Thats a massive 20 inches worth of rain over the course of one week.

Eric, that is almost unbelievable in my part of the world. It will be in the lo 20's tonight but 11 to 12 ft. is incomprehensible here. In my life, I've never seen a foot of snow at one time.

Just checked the gauges.
4 inches of snow on the ground, and a forecast for a low temperature tonight of 2,250 degrees below zero.
On the bright side, there's little or no humidity.

ahh yes, its a dry cold, don't ya know.. we've been watching some of the coverage of that lake effect blizzard back there....all i can say is wow! back home in el dorado, we got a little over 4-inches of rain between 2/7 and 2/11, back to full pool. total on year about 14.5", or about half of normal. down the hill in SAC TOWN they've only gotten about 5-inches on the wet season so far......with no pond well yet, its gonna be a long dry summer in 2007

It is wild to see that on the news up here as well. Seeing people walking out of their second story windows and cars and trucks going down the street in what looks like a snow tunnel. Great stuff, As long as its over at the other end of the lake. They had about 10 ft of now in 2 days a few years back in the same area. All I can say is god bless them for having so much snow and dealing with it. Here is some pics from a local paper from a few days ago before it got bad lol http://www.9wsyr.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=8adbcb60-ee6d-4c36-b85a-49a90d13fb86

Hey Eric, would this be a good time to bring up global warming?

...don't bite, Eric. Next he's gonna wanna re-invent the internet. - - Well, I just spent some quality time on the garden tractor equipped with the 42" snow blower. Yeah, it sux. It's so windy that by the time I blow thru a 2 ft drift, it's already 6" deep when I make a return pass. I gotta remember to think of Eric when I get really depressed....perks me right up.

I could be wrong here, Guvnor, but did Brettski just call you "Al Gore?"
That's harsh.

You misunderstand. I was wondering what kind of response you would get if you asked what the denizens of the frozen North thought of Global Warming. BRING IT ON!!
I guess this is why nobody moves North when they retire.

The storm is in its infancy here. Prediction is for 6-16" total through today into thursday a.m..
Eric,
Its been a while since we've received snow in my area so you'll have to help me here. Do I set up the tanning chair facing the wind or with my back to it?

Actually Eric the rain to snow ratio depends on temps. I just learned this the other day but typically when it's quite cold or with lake effect snow 20:1 ratio's are not unsual. I think that can go as high as 40:1 but I'm not 100 percent sure of that.

I guess this is why nobody moves North when they retire. I'm a big believer that the globe is warming (we have data that shows that) although what percentage of it is caused by man and what percentage of it is a natural cycle I'm not sure. Please don't judge long term weather trends by isolated events. Not sure how much snow we got here. Hard to tell with the blowing. If I had to guess I'd say 5 or 6 inches. I know they got a foot or more south of me though. The snow looks like white sand dunes here.

We got 3/4" of rain here in the last couple days instead of snow. It did lightly snow this morning but wasn't enough to even cover the roads. Until the last few weeks it's been a very unseasonably warm and dry winter here in north central Tennessee.
Have to agree with Cecil. Yeah, the globe is warming but there isn't enough data available to say why yet. Still no reason not to take steps to minimize pollution/deforestation and make the air cleaner for us all. For some really interesting reading google the effects of volcanic eruptions on global temperature.

Interesting thought on Global warming. I agree that there is some going on but like you I think its more natural events causing it. In fact seeing what we have been seeing up our way I think the one theory of the magnetic poles shifting is actually a good explination of what is happening. When the poles shift every 100,000 or so years, more radiation is let in and the eath warms. During that time certain areas change weather patters and you see rapid changes from hot to cold and changes in rain/snow..etc. We seem to be having a general shift in seasons over the past few years where the winter is later and the rest of the seasons have changed too.
But all that being said that is a short term view and not how I am sure the long term data (if we truly had long term data ) would pan out.
So getting back on target here, 14 inches of snow over night and 8-14more due today and 5-6 on Thursday and 4-5 on Friday. Fun Fun Fun
