Does anybody have any spawning cages for catfish? I talked to a hatchery about buying one and they told me they could give me info about how to build one. Just wondering if anybody has a cage or knows how to build one.

I attatched two 5 gallon buckets , with the open end's together , then cut an 8 " hole in one end , then screwed a 24" piece of 2"x4" on the end of one of the buckets to keep it from rolling around , then tied the handles together with a rope to the surface with a float . this allowes you to find it and remove it after spawining season .
This info came from Bob Lusk !

We have poly catfish spawning house. 28 inches tall, 14 inches around with 8 inch opening. Looks like a butter churn but made with plastic. We use them for fish cover by drilling holes in them. Not sure of shipping cost but sell them for $25. Or $20 for 2. They really work much beter than 2 buckets put together. It is what most catfish hatchiers in Miss use.

Sounds interesting Greg. Do you have any pictures of these catfish condos?

I have gotten several plastic drums (30 gal, maybe?) from a local outfit that gets floor cleaner in them. I cut a hole in one end and use them for carrying water to trees for several weeks to be sure they're really well-rinsed. Add that 2x4 for stability and you're set.
