Hey James Wood, send us some. The forecast here is for 89 degrees for a high today with 15 to 20 mph wind gusting to 30. Hello evaporation. Last weekend, I was using my low mileage fireplace. I meant to take off today for some pond maintenance but my wife is yammering about me completing my business taxes.
Some of you guys in Texas got some good rains that helped your ponds last weekend. Has it wicked into the sides or have they stayed up? Any ill effects from the quick rise?
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Dave, we got 3.5 inches of rain in Delta County last weekend - on top of 3.4 inches in three rains couple of weeks before.
Water rise in ponds about a foot. Maybe some "wicking" into sides of pond, but most soaking into pasture on the watershed.
Rain forecat for Fri/Sat - mabe more pond water, ponds still 3 ft low.
Hope you get a gully washer in your area. George Glazener

George, I haven't been there to look but ours was a slow 2 inches over a 24 hour period. Undoubtably some ran off but not much. I'm going sometime this weekend just to look. The withdrawal symptoms are getting severe.

I had about a foot rise in the pond after the weekend rain. It appears that some wicking occurred but it's still a good 10" above what was hopefully the bottom. A rain like that would have given me at least three feet under normal circumstances. The ground moisture is severely depleted in these parts. Puddles last forever in this blackland clay but there was no standing water to be found 12 hours after the rain ceased. The watershed is thirsty!
