My NRCS agent gave me a list of 15 pond builders. 13 of the phone numbers were disconnected. The 2 that I got hold of came out and looked at my 5 acre lake site, commented that it was perfect, took some measurements, and then evaporated. What's with these guys?
Does anyone know of an experienced pond builder on the east side of Atlanta?

Did you ever get your 404 permit from the feds?? I thought you said it was a 10 acre lake!!!
You need to contact a guy named Manuel Wheatley He is out of the Washington area....Contact the Wilkes county USDA service department, they will get you in contact with him. This guy is probebly the best guy in the area for doing ponds. Another guy who could do it is Michael Mathews, he is out of Sandy Cross his number is (706) 743-8310 or 706 202-9580
The USDA service center is (706) 678-2630 and ask for Herman this is Manuels Nephue these guys can do the job and for a fair price too.

It was 10 acres, but it shrunk when I started reading the rules. It's easier to get a permit if it's 5 acres.
A 404 permit only applies to wetland. I sent in a ACoE 4345 application. My NRCS agent told me that this is what I should do. That's this weeks story, anyway. No doubt this will change. Again.
Thanks for the contact info, BP.

Jersey,
The corp has a pretty broad definition of a wetland. Can you explain what the CofE 4345 permit is for. I am interested in this because my NRSC office said they wanted me to submit a 404 permit application and get a ruling. They didn't say I had to have the permit, but just wanted to see what the CofE had to say.

I have no more idea of what a 4345 is for than the man in the moon, or the Corps for that matter. But if you read it, it is simple and by my thinking, it asks the right questions for someone building a farm pond on his own property. It wants a description of what you are wanting to do, and why you want to do it. They want a sketch and a topo map with the pond drawn on it. The 404 form on the other hand, asks all about how much wetland you are going to disturb, why do you need to disturb this wetland, what are you going to do to repay us for disturbing this wetland on your property, wetland, wetland, wetland. If I fill out a 404, every answer would be "does not apply". Know why? Because I don't have a %#@& wetland on my property! See, I can't even discuss this without getting my boxers in a knot!
